If nothing else, surely the sex scenes can't be quite so interminable.
Well if The Lovely One is talking about the Anita Blake graphic novel then there isn't any. Actually it could've used some gratuitous sex scenes - it would've broken up the pages and pages of exposition and all-look-the-same new characters with everyone drawn either straight-on or in profile but no backgrounds. If it was animated they would move like South Park characters...

If I still sound angry and bitter for wasting however-long-it-took to read it, it's only because I am.

Just read Carey and Bolton's 'God Save The Queen', which was an interesting riff on the Faery mythologies of Gaiman's 'Sandman' series. Nice to see Lucien and Nuala in cameos. Nice, also, to see that - as with 'The Furies' - Carey didn't feel creatively hog-tied by Gaiman's work, and produced an entertaining and original self-contained work.

Also, 'The Exterminators: Bug Brothers', first volume of Oliver and Moore's series - and I really can't think why I didn't pick this up as an ongoing comic series. Excellent and quirky stuff.

Just read New Avengers #38-45

Much like the main Secret Invasion series, it feels very jumpy and all over the place. I'm enjoying it still, but I'm looking forward to when the invasion is over and everyone starts to put themselves back together. I haven't read any Mighty Avengers (though hope to catch up soon), but I just want an Avengers series where a group of my favourite heroes go and defeat villains. I want to see Captain America fighting along side Iron Man again. A group with a bit of focus, not with people joining and leaving and loyalties changing with the wind.

Oh and also I thought it was really sad with Skrull Cap really believing he was Cap. I think that's going to be part of the downfall of the Skrulls, they are so much like the people they replace they essentially are them and become heroes (as happened recently in Secret Invasion).

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
I'm not a huge fan of the movies or the slasher genre as a whole, but this was pretty good. Abnett & Lanning's story is faithful and disturbing; Wes Craig's artwork is suitably shadowy and scratchy and coloured in an appropriately bilious pallete. It all gets a bit to splattery for my taste at the end and just redoes scenes from the movie (another family meal for instance) but while I found that a bit obvious I'm sure real fans would love it.

James: while not exactly what you're after you might want to take a butchers at Marvel Adventures: Avengers. It's aimed at younger readers, but is pretty witty with some very clever ideas and is totally free from the burden of continuity.

I've just read the complete Bone for the first time and loved it. I read it all in about two weeks, I can't believe that originally people were reading the story over a twelve year period, it must have been hell waiting for each new issue.

Whilst looking through various bits of info concerning H.P Lovecraft on Wiki, I stumbled across a webcomic called Shadowgirls. And I gotta say, it aint actually half bad.
The art aint as top line as some other productions, but thats only an occasional notation. Mostly its fresh and lively, lenty of action, and some interesting perspective choices for different pannels. The writing is actually rather good, too, the characters have fairly distinct personalities, and the dialogue is pretty sparkey (demons discussing the correct use of the term 'man' regarding its potential as a pleural term of reference. Rather funny to hear this conversation coking out of hidious swamp beasties). The characters actions dont make a whole lot of sense sometimes, but I'm only two dozen or so issues in, so I'm reserving judgment in theat regard. Oh, and did I mention its set in Innsmouth?

(Edit: Oh, and though it dont relate to the plot, I have to say, the archive section of wonderfully designed, finding everything is so easy!)

It is, indeed. I've been a fan of Mr Bolton's since I first read his issue of the original 'Books of Magic' series. He combines the mundane and the magical superbly well.

Bolton's definitely one of the greats. I'd've had you pegged as a fan of his well before that though, HH - Look-In, House Of Hammer, Marada The She Wolf and The Black Dragon for Epic etc...

In the 90s he developed a semi-cartoony style (apparently in an attempt to immitate Simon Bisley) which I must say I don't think suits him - I recently read Batman/Joker: Switch which was horrible.

God Save The Queen is sitting near the top of my unread pile - might have to do what all the cool kids seem to be doing and give it a read...
