The Walking Dead, The Boys, Crossed, Batman and Robin are the only actual comics i pick up regularly i often buy graphic novels/TPBs of other things and have a "binge" (usually the marvel ultimates line, or if i am fond of a particular writer i.e. Garth Ennis) but i lost patience with DC and Marvels multi title yearly "events" and crossovers years ago

Love and Rockets Free Comic Book Day issue. This was rather fun. My favourite story was 'Rocket Rhodes' and I love the ending. Is the rest of the series worth a look?

Absolutely. Easily one of the best of indie comics of it's time. I collected the initial run in the 80's/early 90s, I haven't read any of the more recent stuff.

For the most part it's two ongoing stories, usually each issue has a part of each of these and maybe some other single page stories or features. However it's all collected in some nice oversized trades that keep the stories together.

Jaime's Death of Speedy storyline regular makes an appearance on top 100 (and sometimes top 10) 'best graphic novel' type lists.

Thinking about L&R makes me want to buy this but unfortunately money is a little tight at the moment. That's a hell of a lof of top quality comic for £25.

But still.....

(finger hovers over buy it now button)

....whimper, best not.

Captain Britain & M13 - "Hell Comes To Birmingham" tpb

Well, this was a damned good read, a real improvement on the Skrull stuff. Paul Cornell writes a good yarn, and the art is pretty good as well. A real pity the series is going to be pulled (or so I heard) - poor CB can never get a good run.

Just read Jack of Fables: Turning Pages. Very much a game of two halves - not keen on the Western storyline, with the hero casually murdering dozens of people, but the end three-parter was as good as ever. Pity it ends on a huge cliffhanger...

Definitely - there's two core stories which have recently been collected into 6 fat paperbacks (3 for each series, alternating) and a 7th collecting the various shorts and non-continuity one-offs.

Locas - by Jaime Hernandez
v1: Maggie the Mechanic
v3: The Girl from H.O.P.P.E.R.S.
v5: Perla la Loca

Palomar - by Gilbert Hernandez
v2: Heartbreak Soup
v4: Human Diastrophism
v6: Beyond Palomar

Collected short stories by Jaime, Gilbert & Mario Hernandez
v7: Amor Y Cohetes

I've just finished reading Essential Thor: Vol 4 which collects Thor: No's 167 to 195,and there are truly some very epic and action packed stories in here,I particularly enjoyed Thor: No's 182 to 183 (with Dr Doom involved) and No 193 (where the Silver Surfer made an appearance) awesome classic issues, great stuff
