The new X-Men: Magneto Testament series came out and it managed to be utterly disappointing. It's apparently a new definitive origin for the character (like how James Howlett is Wolverine's true origin) and going by what's inside he's now a Jewish kid by the name of Max Eisenhardt instead of a Gypsy called Magnus.

The only reasoning I can think of for this is the writer is either working with, or hopes to, the Magneto movie script and it's been decided to make him Jewish because that's what people associate with Nazi oppression.

I do hope that I have misread this and there's a different story focus that will become apparent in the next issue, but it was not a great read.

B.P.R.D: The Warning 3, however, is an excellent read with the characterization of Abe and newcomer Panya some of my favourite writing in ages.

The Exterminators v4: Crossfire And Collateral
I wasn't so taken with the opening side-bar 2-part story in this pook but the main 5-parter got the main story right back on track. Rollocking good fun - its a shame the next book will be the last I think...

DMZ v3: Public Works
DMZ v4: Friendly Fire

One of the best comics out there at the moment and Friendly Fire may well be one of the best comics I've ever read - devastatingly well crafted. Special mention for the superb colouring job - particularly in the transition between the yellow/orange combat scene to the almost-monochromatic greys of the 'Day 204' incident. I can't recommend this series highly enough.

Still...we may well have a Showtime TV series based on the comics to look forward to...

Reeeeaally? I would imagine that might lead to a revival of the comic...

There's an awful lot of Vertigo series that would make great TV shows.

Read part four of 'Batman;Gotham after midnight' today, just great looking at Keeley Jones' artwork in this book, really outlandish stuff going on. Batman in a large robot machine fighting a gigantic Clayface who has absorbed many people into his body. BM phoning Alfred during the fight to find out what buildings Bruce Wayne owned so he could throw him into them(they also had to be completely empty of people too of course) seemed the most unbelievable aspect I thought. A good creepy, scary series, the main villan is well scary.

Recently re-read Claremont's Neo arc in UXM and X-Men (from their arrival up to the start of Maximum Security). I loathed it when I read it at the time it came out, but I found it more enjoyable the second time around. Why, I'm not sure, but I imagine it may have something to do with having read so much of Claremont's earlier X-Men work in the interim.

The stuff he did later with Rachel turning into a dinosaur or whatever is still crap, mind.

The Exterminators was originally i8ntended as a TV show, as that's the industry Oliver was working in when he dreamed up the idea. No one was particularly interested, but one producer was a chum of Karen Berger.

Get outta town! I did not know that! I did wonder where Oliver had popped-up from...

Re-read Loveless v1: A Kin Of Homecoming
I enjoyed this first time around (enough to buy v2 anyway) but was really confused by the storytelling style - particularly the way the flashbacks are integrated into the main story. I sat down to read v2 last night but realised I couldn't remember a blessed thing about the first book so dug it out and reread it. Had not a jot of trouble following it this time, bizarrely, and really enjoyed it. That is, if "enjoyed" is the correct term for such a dark, brutal and (no pun intended) unforgiving comic as this.

The Wicked Wiles Of Oznogoud
From the writer/creator of Asterix this is an even more farcical & cartoony creation. Rather than one big adventure there are six 8-page stories here and very good fun they are too - Asterix-style puns and wordplay are present and correct and Michel Tabary's cartooning is delightful.

Ghostbusters: Legion
A not half bad stab at re-igniting the franchise, the tone is very much in line with the movie and the modernising didn't bother me that much. Would've like to have seen more of this series, seem to remember reading that the company was having fiscal difficulties.
