I'm currently about half way through the non-genre The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer - a book that desperately wants to be another 84 Charing Cross Road. (I'm an Amazon Vine reviewer and the title was so odd I had to get them to send me a copy just to find out what the hell it was about!)

Seagalogy: A Study of the Asskicking Films of Steven Seagal, by Vern.
Undeniably the greatest achievement of Western literature to date, and an easy shoe-in for the Pulitzer Prize for Literature and World Peace.

I'll buy pretty much anything by Glen Cook and this really paid off when I found me a copy of 'The Tower of Fear', a tale of machinations and resurrections in an occupied city under enemy rule. It's a little dry in places, and I thought the ending was rushed, but it's well worth a look if you're a fan. Cook is doing what he does best!
A full review is over Here.I've got 'Toll the Hounds' on the go right now plus a couple of other books that are a little easier to read on the train... |

I just finished reading Margaret Attwood's Oryx And Crake.
A very good book indeed, highly "readable", not once was I tempted to stop or give up: it has a great dual narrative, where one narrative moves the story forward and the other (the more interesting of the two) tells us why this imagined world is like it is. Three great main characters, lots of wit and dark humour - an absolute gem of a book.

The Observer's Book Of Astronomy, by Patrick Moore. It's a little hardback edition from 1968 that I got off eBay. It's great! Pluto's still a planet!

Just finished reading Pamela Freeman's 'Blood Ties', some really lovely descriptive passages and world building sucked me into the book only to find that various shortcomings and contrivances were doing their level best to throw me straight back out again! A read that was really cool yet bloody infuriating at the same time, I'll probably stick around for the second installment at least and see if things pick up. My full review is over Here.
I'm now reading Naomi Novik's 'Victory of Eagles' and finding it really easy to get back into the adventures of Laurence and Temeraire... |
