It's good, isn't it?

The children's lit is continuing; I've read "the Earth Witch" by Louise Lawrence and "Holes" by Louis Sachar. Earth Witch is a pretty straightforward text, but it does a nice job of capturing a welsh accent (especially in the sentence structure) and it does have a darkly ambiguous ending too. Holes, on the other hand, is just plain awesome.

Isn't it ?! I totally fell in love with this book and have since read many other books by Sachar (and bought several)... His protagonists are always quirky and interesting and believeable...

Absolutely. His style reminded me slightly of Neil Gaiman, though I'm not entirely sure why.

Oh interesting - I confess I've not read the two in close enough conjunction to have noticed...

Started Broken Angels yesterday right after finishing Altered Carbon, really enjoying Morgans style and have already ordered Woken Furies and Black Man.

I finished The Last Light of the Sun on the train this morning. I thoroughly enjoyed it, Kay is a great writer, but I found the setting to be a little unoriginal, and lacking the sparkle of his earlier books. Not a patch on The Sarantine Mosaic though.

Anyway, I thought I had enough left to read to get me through the commute both ways, but ended up finishing it just as I got into London, so I haven't brought anything with me to read tonight. This is my last week commuting, as next Monday I start my new job (with a huge pay cut, but at least I don't have to face rush-hour on the Picadilly Line every day). So the decrease in commuting time will also mean a decrease in my reading time. Ho hum.

Alice in Wonderland for the first time. I'd never really thought about reading it before but I'm glad I am. It's incredibly sweet and I'm looking forward to reading Through the Looking Glass next!

Sweet? Interesting; I love 'em both to bits, but I found them very disturbing as a child. I hope you enjoy Looking Glass, I'd certainly say that was the superior book.
