Just finished the Stephen King short story collection Just After Sunset. A few so-so ones there, but on the whole a good collection. My favourite was 'N', a Cthuluesqe story about a cosmic demon attempting to break into our reality

Fort Freak, latest in the Wild Cards books, which is returning to the series' New York roots and seems all the better for it.

City of Ruin by Mark Charan Newton. It's very good, and very well written, and I am only 100 or so pages in, but so far it's lacking that certain je ne sais quoi that made Nights of Villjamur so good.

It's sat on my shelf for nigh on 12 years but I've finally taken up ULYSSES by James Joyce.
This could take a while... |

Finished the Chalk Girl by Carol O'Connell. It's classed as a crime novel but this is one of my favourite authors. Imagine a modern day New York mixed with crime noir and every character is a strangely flawed person. She reminds me of Shirley Jackson in her style and live of making the strange seem normal. This tale involves a cruel park murder, escaping rats, corruption and a boy's evil journey through school
This is going to be on my reads of the year - yeah I kinda liked it
