Picking an older performer for nostalgia reasons isn't always the best solution. This was 'amply' demonstrated by the Cyber-controller in 'Attack of the Cybermen'.

![]() I think it's just that I wish Terry Molloy (not Davros) was my grandad. Such a nice chap when I have seen him talk about Who.

Does anyone else ever watch Remembrance of the Daleks (set in 1963) and play the "Spot The Modern Day Car & Building" game?

Is anyone actually a fan of the new multi-coloured hunchback daleks? Gotta say I havent spoken to anyone who is yet.
I still prefer the old-school grey ones! http://edwarddrakefiction.wordpress.com/ |

I like them fine enough. Have no problem with the colours and while the hump is ugly, it's been mentioned before that it's a practical in-story design to prevent someone jumping on the back of them, and they can always be filmed from an angle to hide it anyway. I've got Dalek bubble bath which has basically a model of them as the bottle, and it looks quite nice to me.

I'd like to see if they do any variants of the Dalek - like the Special Weapons type - loved them in Remembrance, especially their insanity.
Although maybe this will be quite some time later in the series as I do agree that there was a slight over saturation in Dalek story lines - mainly in the Tennant era. Also will the drones and regular daleks all have the same design as the five examples from Victory? http://edwarddrakefiction.wordpress.com/ |

I liked the RTD - era Daleks because they did what I'd thought was impossible up to that point - they kept the basic Ray Cusick design and mafe it look tough, functional and practical for the 21st century, even the sink plunger. All the detailing and rivets made them look like miniature tanks, which is what they're supposed to be.
With the paradigm Daleks it's the design not the colouring I have a problem with. Different colours have always been the easiest way to indicate rank and status with th pepperpots, I just feel the design's too bland and plastic - y. Kind of disappointed they've not given the Cybermen more of a design overhaul for series 6 as well. I suppose it's budgetary constraints, but I was hoping they'd do a bit more than just buff the Cybus logo off. |

I reckon it is about 10% like - 90% dislike. Even if that is an overestimation, they were not liked by a good majority. Some say they like the colours not the design or vice-versa. So, I agree with the above about the RTD era daleks. They were beautiful and functional and most importantly believable. The new design is bordering on silly. They are big enough to not look believable - ie. someone is inside. As for colour; I am somoone who loves things having variations and diffierences to indicate rank. However, the new ones were laughable when they appeared. I would also take issue with using the Cushing films as an excuse. Yes, Gattis (who dosen't like the design overly) wanted lots of colours and said the films were inspiration. However, there are quite simple functions and ranks for each: Millions of silver soldiers. Then 1 of: Black, Gold and Red. Fairly primal and good dalek colours that are metallically. The new ones are plastic and are just daft. I would like to suggest that had the orange or yellow dalek been in 'Dalek', I don't think we would be discussing a 6th series. The Ninth Doctor would not have been quite so scared of those, he would have laughed at them, and the series would have not been renewed for a third. - It's a thought. The main problem is this - It is a case of defining something that doesn't need to be defined: The daleks are popular with children. So, lets redesign them to appeal to children? You don't need to, they do already. I am not saying kids do not like them, but they don't need to be told to like them, which is what these new designs are doing. Remember Jar-Jar? Well he was a character that was loved by the exact audience he was created. But does not have the cross-over appeal to generations above and did not grow up with those same kids. |
