Default Wishlist: Blade Runner 2

With Prometheus, Ridley Scott proved he’s not averse to revisiting the worlds of his finest works. It should come as no surprise then that he’s also contemplating a return to LA 2019 for a sequel/prequel/spin-off/whatever set in the Blade Runner universe.

The original is one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made, but what would you like to see from a second Blade Runner film? A prequel about Deckard’s rookie years in Blade Runner academy or a Spartacus-esque yarn of Roy Batty’s escape from Replicant slave camp? An odd couple rom-com about Deckard and Rachael? A JF Sebastian spin-off (so a more faithful adaptation of Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? then)? Or should they leave well enough alone?

Don’t forget to mention who you’d like to see step into Deckard’s shoes, or some prime candidates for future Replicants as well, and the best of the bunch might just make it into a future, rain-soaked, instalment of Wishlist.

They say the third time's the charm so....

For the love of all that's holy (Notice the lower case.) don't do it! It's, rightly or wrongly, considered to be a classic and will only be cheapened by a prequel/sequel/requel/whatever's currently de rigueur*.

*Delete as applicable.

On the Blade Runner BluRay they talk about how the look of Blade Runner has influenced scifi aesthetics ever since it's release, and they showed some music video (George Michael I think?) as an example of that. Yes, I could see the Blade Runner influence in said music video, but unfortunately it was buried beneath layers of pointless CGI. Just like how George Lucas went overboard filling the Star Wars prequels with too much CGI of just about everything, the tree it seemed, became lost in the woods. I fear any new attempt at Blade Runner would suffer the same the fate. Detail is great, clarity of focus is better. Simplicity of design is a more elegant solution than the current trend of "Let's add in more crap... JUST BECAUSE WE CAN!!!"

Anyone like the design of the bots in Transformers? I didn't. You could barely tell what was what because they over designed the damn things. It seems to be a trend, adding in lots of "detail" to distract you from the fact that the actual intrinsic design itself is quite poor.

Anyways, I'm rambling now, lol. But all I can say is I don't believe it can be done. That kind of movie making just doesn't exist anymore, it's from a different time and simply can't be replicated. NOT EVEN BY THE TYRELL CORPORATION!

Besides, Ridley Scott was smart enough to avoid trying to recapture the glory of Alien by going in a very different direction with Prometheus. Would he really risk a straight sequel/prequel to Blade Runner? Lol, maybe Michael Fassbender as Roy Batty?

How about Deckard being teemed up with a replicant partner?

I'd like to see Ben Browder as Deckard, Gerard Butler as the partner, and with her experience playing cyborgs, Summer Glau as one of the replicants being chased, with Danny Trejo playing the EJO role.

Add another voice to the chorus: don't do it.

If it *must* be revisited, how about a gritty TV show? Blade Runner crossed with The Shield?

To start with Nooooo!!! Don't do it!!!!

Ok, now that's done with.

I don't see what they are going to do with it. Starting as a pure sequel wouldn't really work, I think it would have to be a prequel or remake.

I think they should try and look at some of the elements which are in the PKD book but missing from the film. I'm not talking about the setting (as that's gorgeous) or Deckard's character (which works well enough). I was thinking of:

1. Exploring the idea that Deckard might be a replicant.

2. Looking at the quasi-religious elememts

Also perhaps they could show some of the off-world stuff that is referenced in the first film.

Oh yeah, one more thing.

DON'T DO IT!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

In Lord Of The Rings it is said that "One does no simply walk into Mordor"

Well I say "One does not simply muck about with a film that is as close to perfection as it is possible to get." Well, you dont if you want your head to remain on your shoulders. And frankly Blade Runner 2 should be a capital crime in every sense of the word.

If they have to do it, set it in the same universe but don't try to follow the same plot. I'd like to see a big space battle with replicant soliders in the off-world colonies but that's just because I fancy seeing some big screen space battles rather than a Blade Runner sequel.
