Its true, as Boo, RGSaffron and Peanut have said, that the Heil is effectively one huge troll in the disguise of a newspaper. In fact the website is pretty much an engine designed first and foremost to get hits to up ad revenue, so its trolling and photos of scantily clad celebrities (They have used the "We show you these to prove how shocking it is" line)
That said, is Brick herself a Troll? Entirely possible, but she may also just be deluded and exploited by a paper which knows a good money maker when they see it, however as delusions go it isn't taht bad. Ok she's paranoid that people hate her because she's beautiful, looking at her picture its probably not that, if people do hate her its probably for some other reason, and she may just percieve people as hating her, which is kind of sad really. As for our attatudes, Even if she'd been the utterly perfect example of womanhood who men fall over in droves to please, I reckon she'd still have had a backlash writing an article about it. It may be a British thing, we prefer people to be understated about themselves. in that respect, to go back to Hangman's example in the first post, he may well get backlash for coming out and saying he's clever, even if he can empirically prove his brains. I'm sure people would go off Chris Hoy if he wrote an article about how brilliant a cyclist he is, I think, culturally we seem to prefer people to be a bit modest, hence a self made millionaire saying he's made a few quid from some clever dealing and a lot of luck will be liked by the public, while a similar millionaire who says he's earned all his money through his own economic briliance and keen buisiness sense will be disliked.

I also think its a female thing. Even women who are generally agreed as beautiful will often point out the bits of them they dont like when told they look amazing. Women underestimate their looks (not sure whether thats natural or taught though) and I think its part of the reason for hostility to a women who doesn't. I do feel some admiration for a woman with the confidence to say hey I'm hot and I know it however in the article she does come across as an obnoxious cow.

I see she's digging her hole even deeper now:
http://web.orange.co.uk/article/quir...other_ugly_row I wonder how you make that decision to achieve fame / notoriety and raise your profile at the expense of making everyone hate you and reckon it's worth it? |

Isn't singling someone the way that she does essentially bullying?
I don't care what Samantha Brick looks like on the surface or what her excuses are, she is an ugly, ugly human being.

What an utterly vile and shamelessly superficial woman.
If there was a prime-time contest between shows on the biggest terrestrial channels featuring Brick on one and Mary Beard on the other, I know which I'd be watching. Professor Beard would provide an enlightening, insightful and entertaining account of her chosen subject, secure in the knowledge that her reputation as Britain's best known Classicist is based on her academic reputation and personal convictions - upon acheivement, effort and an enduring legacy as a scholar and educator. How many Classicists get to be on peak-time, anyway? She's a 57 year old academic, for Chrissakes, not an FHM cover-girl - not a job which, traditionally, demands devastating good looks. I'm not going to be deterred from watching a documentary about Agricola or Domitian on account of the presenter being a bit wrinkly because...well...I'm not a frakking moron. Ms Brick would talk about...um...herself and...um...her recent fleeting notoriety because...well, as far as I can tell that is the only vaguely interesting thing about her.I might be tempted to switch over for a few seconds from Beard's show, but only for the sake of schadenfreude - to relish a silly, superficial woman trying desperately to convince others of her delusions of worth. Others might well watch, because a slow motion car-crash is always fun. |

Well previously I gave her the benefit if the doubt as a possibly naive journalist instead it appears she's as obsessed with looks as the people she claimed where against her
I wonder though who will still likely be remembered in 10 years from now?

I watch sod all TV anyway, but I'd rather sit down to an intelligent documentary than watch something with Ms Brick on it. However, if we are talking a true slow motion car crash with Ms Brick as the living target then I could make an exception, secure in the knowledge that the outcome would considerably improve the gene pool of thehuman race. At some point the gilly has to cull the diseased and weak from any herd, and I think we have a prime example of a diseased member of the human herd.

I absolutely loved Meet the Romans it was a great little series presented with passion and charisma by someone who not only knows her subject well but can also pass that enthusiasm over to the viewer! After watching the first episode I wished I could read Latin so I could visit Rome and read some of these wonderful messages from the past myself! Mary Beard is fantastic and I hope we get to see her demonstrating her passion and knowledge on TV more! As for brick... Pffft, no-one'll care who she is in 10 years.
