What I mean is it's not like he's taking films which aren't his to tinker with. I don't know the ins and outs of the ownership, but until he carks it, he's free to do whatever he likes to the Star Wars series, right? If he'd bought the rights for Citizen Kane and then started sticking his CG oar in, then yes, that would be inherently wrong.

The point I was making is that to me, and many other people around the world, star wars is as much as a classic as Citizen Kane.
And while I never objected to him putting new effects in where the old ones were dodgy, the wholesale tinkering with scenes that never needed tinkering with is what pisses me off. It was fine as it was, and every change he made has only made things worse, never better.

As long as people are silly enough to keep buying the "New" versions Lucas will still knock them out every ten years or so.
Of course if people refused to buy them. You go away for four days and return to find geekdom in full on outrage mode I'm annoyed I've missed it.

![]() And Star Wars is part of the American National Film Registry's list of culturally significant movies, so the idea that George can do as he pleases doesn't ring true. Not unless he allows us to get our hands on the original theatrical version, then he can do whatever he pleases to a special edition, so long as it's labelled as such. Think what they did with the remastering of Taxi Driver, they remastered it to 4k standard and did an amazing job of it because they appreciate and value it's cultural significance to American cinema.

That's something else which mystifies me -- surely he's been on internet in the past decade and a half, right? I really don't understand his reasoning for not simply giving the fans what they want, i.e. a fully-remastered 8K version of the OT. Not this cookie-cutter threedee crap.
