Somone wrote an analysis of the duels from the first four or five movies (I forget if it was before or after Clones) and (apparently), the Vader - Kenobi fight displays just as much "fencing perfection" as the three way duel from Phantom Menace displays kick botty kung fu. Now, I find that very difficult to believe but then again I can't fence and I've only spent a couple of hours training with a bo. :?
For me its more a sign of the times that ANH was made in.

Audiences were satisfied with the precise but slow sword fighting style then, and it does change in the next two films as we bocome more acustommed to it and expect more.

Where as the prequels offer the Matrix.Crouching Tiger, generation fight scenes to match their expectations.

I like to think its down to Obi Wan , knowing that Vader is stronger, and thus relying on form and percision to hold his own, compared with Luke in ROTJ who fights Vader on much more of an even footing, and thus his fighting style reflects that confidence.

But that could just be down to me not wanting to admit that the fight scenes in the prequels are actually better!

I had an even more dull reason for it - Guiness was old, Prowse was a weight lifter (and hence not overly mobile) and there was no point training Hamil (why can't I spell that anymore?)

Yeah, Old Obi and Vader, they really are a bit naff aren't they. Lucas used the old men and half man half machines way past their prime excuse, but it just looks dated compared to todays Matrix style fight scenes.

Possibly the only thing the prequels actually got somewhat right. The fights were better. But even saying that TPMs three way saber fight is the only one i really like. Especially the bit with just Obi and Maul fighting after Qui Gon falls. Kick arse stuff. The other Jedi on Jedi fights all lacked something for me:

Yoda - Ducky fight was just to short and Yoda is just to odd looking.

Palp - Windu is too klunky. They seem to spend most of the fight too close to each other. And CGI Palp is awful. And the three masters getting killed like wusses is just too lame. Palps style is so slow and his moves so telegraphed that it just looks like the Jedi are rubbish.

Palp - Yoda, again, too short again CGI Plap is awful and stands out a mile which is odd considering he's fighting a two foot frog and the frog looks more real. Plus the whole fight just winds me up because Yoda runs away for no real reason.

Obi - Anakin/Vader has some good bits, but is nowhere near as epic as it needs to be for the massive confrontation that this is supposed to be. Plus as mentioned several times above the "I have the high ground" bollocks

I gotta agree with both darkman and Yoda for things in the Specials that improve the films. Overall i thin ESB is the only film actually improved by the SE treatment, Bespin does look a lot better in the SE version. The extra fighters in ANH do add to the battle. Some of the Mos Eisley scenes look good and really open the city out but then two seconds later it looks utterly terrible. Most of the rest of the changes are either utter crap (swinging Jawas?) or utterly pointless (CGI droids hitting other CGI droids?)really.

One think i would have added to the Special Editons that Lucas didn't is more ships to the final ROTJ Death Star battle. Not the stupid amounts seenin the battle over Coruscant, but enough to make the battle look a bit more epic than it does. The Rebels only seem to have about ten fighters and about eight frigates. And i would have loved to have seen it expanded a bit.

Not about the Yuzzum  I meant my big post before your Jabba's band post up page, I was sure someone would have something to say about my idea about beefing up the ROTJ battle at the very least, or disagree with my thoughts on the saber fights...

I'm glad he left that well alone - longest space battle scene ever at that point (in fact, iirc it wasn't bested until B5's loose trilogy of episodes detailing their secession from Earth).

Plus the small number of rebel capital ships shows just how out on a limb they are at that point. It really is all or nothing for them.

Perhaps some ewok entrails. Gornography on Endor, that's what I wanna see
