I just read a comment about someone enjoying going to see a film on a Monday morning, as the cinema was empty, and it got me thinking - I usually prefer to see a film in a full cinema.
I think it's mostly an atmosphere thing - going to see something like Harry Potter on opening night in a full cinema, gives it that little extra edge of excitment. Also for films like Superbad and The Hangover, I enjoyed watching these on a Friday and Saturday night in a full cinema, as with an audience laughing along, it seemed to enhance the screenings. |

Preferably as empty as possible! Especially when you consider the majority of people who go to the cinema are stupid, ignorant tw*ts who don't know how to eat quietly, turn off a mobile phone or whisper.

I don't know whether it's the cinema I go to, or I am just incredibly lucky, but I have never had my enjoyment of a film ruined by idiots in the audience, although it seems like a lot of people have.

The fewer people the better, for me. I usually go to the first screening of the day, especially if I'm going at the weekend, as I know that'll be the emptiest. Weekdays are even better.

There's a cinema here in Liverpool called The Fact that has a better class of clientel; more film enthusiasts than just average movie goers. They're generally fine, so I'm okay with being in a packed house there.
Elsewhere though, I'd prefer it to be empty. I have had a couple of trips to the cinema ruined by others. |

The best cinema I've been to is the Tyneside in Newcastle, very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. A close second is one called The Granville 7 in Vancouver, I saw In Bruges there, and the cinema I saw it in was the size of a football stadium!! There weren't many in, (mostly goths), but it was a great atmosphere, and the staff were ULTRA-FRIENDLY!! (Must have been because I was foreign... :P)

I like the experience of watching a film along with a cinema full of people because it can give a real buzz. Unfortunately, because so many people can't behave it only really works that way in the big cinemas in London where the distance and price tends to put off the disruptive element. If I'm seeing something locally I usually wait for a week or so and choose a time when I know there won't be a lot of people there.
