Just reading the excerpt of the Private Eye article (in the SFX piece) and stories of Budgetary problems on TV shows is nothing new. When I used to work at the BBC we regularly had budgetary problems and had to scamper off to wardrobe to raid props from other shows.

Now I work in US TV with budgets that we could only dream about at the BBC and we still run out of money I'm working on a new show for the fall season and have already decided we can only afford to make 8 episodes of the 9 the broadcaster has ordered so we're wondering if we can have a flashback after just 8 shows

So far, nobody at the BBC has confirmed when the 14 episodes will air. People are now worried that this split season thing was not preparation for a permanent move to August, but a permanent move to half length series. And yes, we Doctor Who fans tend to worry too much (especially after the barren years),* but a lot of little hints are pointing in that direction.

As much as I haven't been particularly enjoying Moffat's take on the show, I'd hate for it to get cut down at all.
*This is all too true.
Though for once, I am not worried about a move to Autumn schedules. Though I would say that even with 5.5m viewers watching live, is not too shabby. Would Robin Hood or Merlin have got that after 6 years in the Spring / Summer schedule? I doubt very much.
Comparing the surrounding programmes at that time, it is by far the winner. So there is reason not to move it, from the Spring, no other show would acheive the same it does. And I think DW at the moment is not that great).

I wouldn't worry about anything Private Eye has to say. I work for Siemens with the BBC and Private Eye is constantly full of stories that I know for fact are total b*llocks about the working relationship between the two.

Excluding the soaps the show is the top rated drama each week hard to see a need to trim it down at the mo

Well the Drama Department are having a 10-16% cut so all shows budgets are being cut, but the tales of people having to trim down stories to fit budgets is a process that's always happening. I just phoned one of our writers to tell him his episode had too many people and he needs to reduce the cast list by 3 and take out a couple of exterior shots

Budgets are one thing but 14 to 6 would be a massive budget cut!

I think so far this year it isn't looking as threadbare as last years season did in places

You'd think news of a new season being confirmed would be good and yet there are still moans, controversy and negativity all over the place. Sheesh.

It's the lack of clarity innit? Moffat's 'hilarious' statement on SFX's homepage yesterday was always going to set the alarm bells ringing. All people want is to know if there's going to be a full series next year or a half series. The lack of confirmation from both the BBC, and the production team seems to lend credibility to the article in the Eye.
