This is getting silly now...first it was Rotten Tomatoes shutting down the comments board because of threats against critics for not liking the film ...now it's $100 dollars on Craigs list....jeez it'll be there next week.

The Dark Knight Rises

Current estimates for the Midnight Opening is now somewhere between $28M and $30M, making it the 2nd best Midnight Opening of all-time and if the figure keeps rising maybe it could exceed "Breaking Dawn"'s $30.2M as the best Midnight bow of all time, though the figure has been getting higher and higher it does seem that the figure is closer to just North of $28M at the moment

This shatters the Midnight bow of $18.4M "The Avengers" couped in May this year.

The Weekend is now looking at $180M-$210M

[edit]Final Midnight Openings say the film tool $30.6M thus breaking "Breaking Dawns" record and thus becoming the biggest Midnight Opening at the US Box Office. The film looks as if it will take between $80M - $90M on Friday alone

THe Dark Knight Rises

Out of respect for those killed or injured in the Aurora, CO shooting the studios aren't releasing figures for the weekend until Monday

However, those who also see the Box Office reports say the picture took $77M on Friday, making the picture the 3rd best opening day. The Deathly Hallows pt 2" still tops the chart with $91.1M followed by "The Avengers" with $80.8M

The film is now forecast to weekend with between $165M and $170M, so the film seems to have lost some steam following the shootings.

US Weekend

Out of respect, the studios nor Rentrack aren't releasing information about the weekend cinema activity until the actuals are released tomorrow afternoon. But the weekend estimates are still available, though the studios demographics aren't

It's clear that the tragedy has caused people to stay away from cinemas in the US this weekend with overall numbers being sharply down when it was anticipated that the weekend would be one of the biggest of all-time. Though the weekend is 35% up on the same weekend as last year.

"The Dark Knight" rises took $76.1M on Friday, ranking the picture as the 3rd best opening day of all-time, as we said yesterday that slots in behind the $91M of the "Deathly Hallows Part 2" and the $80.8M of "The Avengers". On Saturday the film took $45.2M ( a 40% drop) which ranks it as the 7th best Saturday (behind the $45.8M of "Iron Man 2". Sunday the picture is expected to take $39.8M which should give it a weekend of $161M

Way down on the predicted $190M-$200M talked of a few days ago, but then real-life intrudes into our games.

This means that the picture ranks as the year's 2nd biggest opening, obviously slotting behind the $207M of "The Avengers" and just ahead of "Hunger Games" $152M. It ranks the film as the 3rd best Opening Weekend of all time with "The Avengers" taking the #1 spot and "The Deathly Hallows" squeezing just ahead with $169.2M

TDKR already takes the spot as the year's 9th biggest film at the US Box Office, trailing the $175M of "MIB3"

The film is just $1M behind the total gross of the 1992 pic "Batman Returns" (Tim Burton's 2nd pic) and ranks as the 21st biggest Superhero pic.

"Ice Age 4" comes in 2nd this weekend with $20.2M. The pushes the pictures 2nd weekend Cume to $88.7M, the previous picture had taken $119M by the end of its 2nd weekend, the 2nd pic had taken $115M whilst the original had taken $87M.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" was bound to suffer a huge drop with the debut of "Batman", the picture takes the 3rd weekend with $3.3M, marking a 69% drop from last weekend. The film is just about to pass its price tag as this weekend its gross stands at $228.5M, midweek the film exceeded the $213M of "The Lorax" to become the 3rd biggest film of the year which is probably where it stays (until Batman usurps it) as "The Hunger Games" sits well in front with $405M

The film now ranks as Marvel's 8th biggest picture having overtaken "X-Men 2"'s $214M and now is trailing "Last Stand"'s $234M. In the genre of Super Heroes, the pic ranks as the 11th biggest having just passed the $227M of "Hancock", "Last Stand" is the 10th biggest.

With $10.2M this weekend, "Ted"'s Cume now stands at $180.4M, ranking the picture as the year's 7th biggest picture having overtaken "MIB3". The film ranks as Universal's 2nd biggest picture of the year, with aforementioned "The Lorax" taking the studio's top spot.

The Gross also means that the film has now become Wahlbergs 2nd biggest movie having just scrambled pass the $180.0M of 2001's "Planet of the Apes" and is about to become his biggest as "The Perfect Storm" takes his top spot with $182M.

"Brave" becomes the 6th film of 2012 to pass the $200M mark, this weekend earning $5.9M which brings its gross to $208.7M. The film now ranks as the year's 5th biggest picture, having overtaken the $206.2M of "Madagascar 3" the film is now trailing "The Lorax" (which I seem to have mentioned a lot today).

In the Pixar brand, the movie overtakes "Ratatouille"'s $206.4M to become their 9th biggest movie, it doesn't look as if it has enough life left in it to catch up the $223M of "Wall-E".

In terms of Computer Animated pics, the weekend sees it skip pass "Ratouille" and "Madagascar 3" to become the 17th biggest pic in the US, with (yet again) "The Lorax" in 16th spot.

"Magic Mike" comes in next with $4,3M pushing the film across the $100M mark to Cume at $102.2M, that still leaves it as the 15th biggest pic of the year but $1M more it will overtake "Journey 2".

For Soderbergh, the film ranks as his 6th biggest pic but is now trailing "Ocean's 13" by $15M. For Channing Tatum the film has just overtaken the $97.0M of "Public Enemies" to become his 4th biggest picture, his 3rd biggest also comes from this year with "The Vow" having grossed $125M

"Savages" dropped 70% this weekend, the US public not in the mood for shoot-them-ups, the film has grossed $40M just a hairs breadth from its $45M price tag. The film ranks as Stone's 9th biggest picture with 1987's "Wall Street" just ahead with $43M.

Tyler Perry's "Madea's Witness Protection" scooped a further $2.3M this weekend and in so doing brings the pictures cume to $60.4M. For Tyler Perry, the film now ranks as his 3rd biggest having just passed the $60.1M of "Why did I get Married too" and in the Madea brand it ranks as the 3rd biggest trailing the $63M of "Madea's Family Reunion"

Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom" added another $1.8M this weekend to bring its cume to $36.1M. The film became Anderson's 2nd biggest grossing pic some time ago when it passed the $25M of "Life Aquatic" it still trails "Tennenbaums"'s $52M which it looks very unlikely to catch

Finally Woody Allen's "Rome With Love" seems to have lost 200 screens over the week, hopes that this would be another "Midnight in Paris" seem dashed. The film has so-far earned $11.2M ranking the picture as his 16th biggest, trailing the $11.3M of '93's "Manhattan Murder Mystery"

There's always next weekend in the states....people stayed away slightly because of the irrational fear of Copycats and I don't think the film will be affected globally... rest assured no mattter what occurred , globally Dark Knight has already broken even while those who stayed away this weekend in the states will come back next week......I feel sorry for any film that opens next weekend.

Spiderman has only just broken even when you take into account the Global box office.

Savages I believe you should correct what you've written....changing the line " not in the mood for shoot em ups " to " Not in the mood for Oliver Stone Movies"

Magic Mike could make $100 Million pure profit in the next few weeks the way it's going.

Tyler Perry does it again $20 million in profit before dvd or blu ray release.

Woody Allen ....how much did this cost to make? People usually work with Wood just for the "Thrill" of working with Woody so usually even if his films fail the result isn't disasterous. and he comes bouncing back. ( although "Bouncing" when it comes to Allen in attitude is a little optimistic.)

International Weekend

Offshore figures are still hard to come by as those who I typically use are now getting on with their proper jobs. But here are the figures reported by Rentracks

"The Dark Knight Rises" opened in 17 Offshore Markets to $88M, the UK was the largest where the pic took $22M, Australia looks to be the 2nd biggest with $15.5M with S. Korea just behind with $15M. Germany, & France will open this week.

Worldwide the pic has already grossed $268.3M which ranks it as the 16th biggest picture of the year, with "Brave" just ahead.

"Ice Age 4" took $56M from 64 markets, this brings the pictures offshore Cume to $440.4M, which makes it the 3rd biggest film in the year's Overseas Chart, with "MIB3" just $3M ahead. Worldwide it becomes the 5th picture to pass the $500M mark and now trails "The Amazing Spider-Man".

The Global take sees the picture remain as the 3rd largest of the franchise, with "Ice Age 2" still ahead with a Global Gross of $655M. The picture seems to lack any further major openings and thus if it's going to catch up the money will have to come from grinding out existing markets.

In 3rd spot comes "The Amazing Spider-Man" taking $29.3M this weekend which puts its Offshore Cume at $384.9M and Worldwide at $616M meaning that it's close to the 3xbudget figure when it starts to make serious profits.

The film still remains the lowest earner in the franchise trailing the lowest grossing of the Sam Raimi pictures, "Spider Man 2" which took a Global $783M. Globally the pic ranks as Marvel's 6th biggest picture having overtaken the $585M Global Gross of "Iron Man" and is chasing the $623M Worldwide take of the 2nd "Iron Man" picture

The film ranks as the 4th biggest pic in the year's Overseas Pics, trailing "Ice Age", and Worldwide it ranks as the 4th biggest but this time trailing the $618M of "MIB3".

Pixar's "Brave" took $20.4M this weekend, bringing its Cume to $70.5M and Worldwide to $280M, the film should get quite a spurt on once August arrives as it hits Western Europe over the first couple of weeks. Currently its Worldwide take $280.2M ranks it as the years 15th biggest picture, trailing "John Carter" by $2M.

"Madagascar 3" took $6.3M from 44 markets this weekend bringing its Offshore take to $282.7M and Worldwide to $489.9M. It ranks as the year's 6th biggest film, having had "Ice Age" overtake it this week.

The pic now ranks as Dreamworks' 10th biggest picture, $5M behind the Global Gross of "How to Train Your Dragon". Though the picture is the biggest of the franchise in the US, it still ranks as the lowest grossing offshore, chasing the $339M that the original pic earned overseas, but it still has Japan, Germany and the UK remaining (not until October for the latter two though)

"Ted" picked up $4.7M this weekend presumably the majority of which came from Australia as the pic had no major openings this week.

"Snow White & The Huntsman" took $4.1M this weekend, the majority of which derived from Italy, bringing its Offshore Cume to $228M making it the 9th biggest, trailing the $236M of "Battleship". Worldwide it has earned $381M making it the 7th biggest film of the year, chasing "Madagascar 3".

"The Lorax"'s opening in the UK sees it return to the charts with $3.7M this weekend (all from the UK) the offshore cume of just $103M seems to indicate Dr. Seuss isn't as popular overseas as in the US (especially as, apart from Japan, this was its last major opening). Still the US take of $213M means the picture has a Worldwide Gross of $317M making it the year's 10th biggest pic.

Thanks to a $2.6M weekend from 38 markets, "The Dictator" passed the offshore $100M mark this weekend, the film has taken a Worldwide $161M making it the 24th biggest and just $1M behind "Mirror Mirror", the film opens in Vietnam this week

Code:
1. “Dark Knight Rises” $88.0M O’seas Cume $88.0M W’wide $268.3M Budget $250M
2. “Ice Age 4” $56.3M $440.4M $532.2M $100M
3. “Amazing Spider Man” $29.3M $384.9M $616.2M $230M
4. “Brave” $20.4M $70.5M $280.2M $185M

7. “Ted” $4.7M $39.5M $221.3M $50M

as the song says "Uh Oh here comes trouble!" The Harkins group of theatre chains has had a massive falling out with Fox over the new comedy The Watch being released this week...the Harkins group which controls over thirty cinemas in the mid southwest and are the main cinema chain in Phoenix are demanding a bigger share of Ticket Sales from The Watch...Fox Has refused and so Harkins Are boycotting the film...none of the Harkins Chain will show the Movie....this is a game of chicken...who is going to suffer more, Harkins or Fox...The Studio needs the Revenue while Harkins are going to gamble that customers will not be willing to go to a different theatre...this could be a small spat or the start of something far bigger between exhibitors and studios.

Actually the song goes, "Uh oh, we're in trouble" but I'm just being a pedant.

Predicted Weekend

I guess the big question this weekend will how will last weekend's Aurora shootings affect the Box Office, will the US Public stay away or will life just carry on per usual

"The Dark Knight Rises" bow last weekend suffered by stay aways and thus this should help swell the pictures 2nd weekend plus the film should benefit from many repeat viewings thus I'm thinking it's only going to get a 50% drop though others are suggesting a 60% drop. Yesterday the film was still accounting for 80% of Fandango's ticket sales (though obviously many were for that days showings).

"The Watch" has had a problematic lauch, originally titled "Neighborhood Watch" and scheduled for a launch earlier in the year until the Florida Trey Martin shooting so Fox delayed the pci and now as Johnone notes, Fox are having disputes over the Theatrical share of the taking that has caused the pic to be pulled from the Harking theatres

The film has yet to register in Fandango's top 5 sellers but seeing the trailers for it a few weeks ago I was surprised to see Richard Ayoade feature

"Ice Age 4" I'm guessing a 40% drop which would give it a weekend of around $13M-$14M

"Step up Revolution" came as a surprise to me, the original "Step up" bowed to $20M, then "Step up 2 the Streets" opened to $18.9M whilst the last pic "Step up 3-D" debuted to $15.8M. So on the law of diminishing returns I'm guessing at a $14M weekend. Like "The Watch", the picture has yet to make Fandango's top 5.

"Killer Joe" also debuts this weekend but only in 3 theatres so it shouldn't trouble even the nether ends of the chart just yet

Code:
1. “The Dark Knight Rises” Predicted $80.0M
2. “The Watch” $20.0M
3. “Ice Age:Continental Drift” $15.0M
4. “Step Up Revolution” $14.0M
5. “Amazing Spider-Man” $8.0M
6. “Ted” $5.0M
7. “Brave” $4.0M
8. “Magic Mike” $3.0M
9. “Moonrise Kingdom” $2.0M
10. “Savages” $1.4M

Ah but Mozz which song am I quoting?? seriously though do you have any idea how many songs use that line.

I've got to say Dave ,Killer Joe is opening in three cinemas and it'll be interesting to see will it fly because it is a disturbing watch with the final fifteen minutes.I don't know if this is going to have a widespread appeal...people going to see Matthew "Mohagony" will be in for a shock.
