Got a response from Cineworld today
Thank you for contacting Cineworld. I'm sorry to hear you are not happy with the additional surcharge cost for 3D films. The £2.10 / £1.50 surcharge, is to cover the overhead expenses involved to bring this premium experience to our customers. We believe that the fantastic enhanced experience of this new 3D technology is worth a premium price. The costs involved are much higher than standard the film product. Examples of some of these costs are: The installation of digital screens in our cinemas that have 3D capabilities Digital projectors and 3D kit Film rental Distributor costs of converting a 2D film into 3D. The premium price is also helping Cineworld to invest in rolling out more 3D screens across its estate. The revenue from a cinema ticket is shared between cinema operators and film distributors; this will also allow the industry to invest in making more 3D films. We do advise that it is the opinion of the customer if they are not happy with the 3D effects that are present in the film. If they are not to your liking with in the first 20mins of the performance we would advise to speak to the Manager on Duty, they will be more than happy to offer you a resolution on site. Should you have any further queries please feel free to contact Customer Services on 0844 815 7747. Kind regards, Samantha Clarke Customer Services

Toy Story 3D did it for me - a totally unneccesary use of it, a complete waste of money. The film was great in itself but the 3D added nothing. And it's two quid extra per ticket at our local Odeon - for somebody like me, with a family of three others that usually come along, thats almost a tenner extra, not counting for the exorbitant payments for food and refreshments at the Odeon counters. So now 2D is our preferred method of watching.
But get this - now it seems that even 2D showings are being limited. There is only one 2D presentation for Thor a day at our local - so even if you prefer 2D, your ability to exercise your choice is getting curtailed. I had to go at 11.20 in the morning to see the 2D version on Friday, for f**k's sake! ![]() Overhead expenses are one thing, but taking us for a ride is another - many films transferred into 3D are simply not worth the premium and it seems the cinemas are trying it on by limiting the availability of the 2D versions. As I sid to my daughter - we're better off watching On Demand HD presentations on our 42 inch TV at home. £5 for a top quality viewing as opposed to almost £40 for the family to watch second-rate 3D effect - I'm not effin stupid! I posted this in the original 3D thread but I shall post it here as well.
If I can I avoid 3D films like the plague. Since it became popular again I've not seen the point or the appeal of this craze and I do my very best to avoid films involving it as in my experience it's overrated. It's clearly just a way to get an extra few quid out of me as its almost double the cost of a cinema ticket to experience the novelty. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I care more about the story and characters in a movie and not if I'm being amazed by bullets or laser beams coming out of the screen because I'm wearing look-a-like NHS glasses. I'm sure at some point in the future we will see even more directors solely concentrate on this bandwagon and thus ignore the story and any message the film itself might have. For now I'm happy to watch films without 3D although I'd ask you kindly to give me a call when the holodecks arrive.

You cant expect 3d to ADD to a story, its just to submerge you deeper into the experience. To make things more FUN!
I find "genre" fans do take things far too seriously most of the time. People need to chill out more. Thor has been the only movie I have seen that really didn't have much 3d in it and i found it wasn't really required. For kids CG movies (Monsters v Aliens, Despicable Me and Toy Story 3) it worked really well, Avatar and Tron Legacy it was stunning and really did draw u into the movie more. I think i will not see any more live action movies in 3d unless they have been filmed with the technology in mind (The Hobbit). But the CG movies are the perfect forum for the technology and I would be happy to pay the extra to watch them in 3d.

I don't feel submerged deeper into the experience actually - I find it all a barrier to my experience, each time an effect pops up, I'm taken out of the story, concentrating more on the effect rather than the story. Having said that, some 3D movieshave been enjotyable experiences - Monster vs Aliens was one and so was How To Train Your Dragon. But IMO those experiences are the exception, not the rule. I'm not totally agains 3D but like I said earlier its not worth paying an extra tenner for the "privilege". |

I don't like 3D, I think it makes it much harder to see the film and it seems to be slightly stuttery or blurry to me. The best example I've found recently was Rio. I wasn't expecting a great film but apparently it is a fairly beautiful and colourful film. I couldn't experience a lost of this beauty as it was so hard to see!

I see Vue have slashed the validity period of Vue More vouchers. When the local branch opened five or so years ago they were valid for two weeks. Sometime in the intervening period they upped them to four weeks but, over the last few months, I've noticed them creeping lower and lower. First back to two weeks, then thirteen days and at the weekend when I went to see Cabin in the Woods I was surprised to find they've now cut them down to six days. WTF! It's getting to the point where it's hardly worth issuing them.

Maybe they'll phase them out in favour of something like the Odeon card, or more hopefully, the Cineworld Unlimited card.
