I agree with your assessment of the original. I mean, it was the coolest thing ever when I was a teenager, but that's because I was a teenager. It's not exactly subtle in its satire, or its drama, and does, instead, focus mainly on the violence. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's not like you can really pretend it's a hugely intellectual and witty film which just happens to feature a melting man. It's a film with a melting man that also has a sprinkling of obvious satire.

If you're looking for clever satire, then Starship Troopers is much more successful, because there really were people who didn't realise that it was satire.

Starship Troopers is a much better film I agree, and no-one can complain about Robocop being diluted since the already existing film sequels, tv series, toys etc.

If his idea is of a movie set in between Murphy getting shot and Robocop going out on patrol for the first time, sounds like they got the wrong man for the job.

No doubt if he ever remade star wars it would be two hours of Luke working the farm, after Biggs had left, but before the droids turn up.

Sony Pictures has set a release date for the Jose Padilha-directed reboot of RoboCop. It's now slated to arrive on August 9, 2013.
I've no idea who Joel Kinnaman is to be honest. From my point of view this is probably a good thing.

Although I'm not sure about what Jose Padilha's said about his take on the movie.

"In the first 'RoboCop' when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, then you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts. How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?"

We shall see.
