I'm surprised you actually REMEMBER that, sounds like something people discuss right before they pass out...

I'll be sure to suggest that to Vader the next time we share a pint...

I think your Vader should perfect his "Padme... Nooooo!" impression for the next Weekender, purely for the comedy value.

Have to add my slice of grumpy to those complaining about the accommodation. Yes, it was vile. Get over it. Anyone sleeping there should have, by rights, been too drunk to care about anything except that it was somewhere vaguely soft and horizontal. If you weren't sleeping, you should have been out there, either taking in a film or a panel, or going for a stroll and enjoying the beautiful weather

In any case, the Prestatyn complex is apparently getting a full refurbishment before we get there. Even so, I wouldn't expect the Savoy. The Weekender takes place at such venues because they are the only places that can accommodate such vast numbers of people, while still offering enough facilities to provide a main hall, a big screening room, a pub, a restaurant, various snack outlets, and remarkably odour-free toilet facilities. I'm happy to put up with such basic residences for the amenities that are provided in recompense.

Oh, and Silver Fox 67 - it was a pleasure to meet you and shoot the breeze. You and your brother are two of the most friendly, approachable, clever and fun people I've encountered. It was an honour to meet you both. Have you checked out my pics? Some of them are of you (See my sig)...

Aeryn > sorry for the delay in replying, just wanted to say thanks for the links and info. All the more impressive for seeing how much work was involved.

Food for thought. Hm.

Had a great time - recovery period will be long though!! Can't wait for next year - it's a pity that they don't have any 2 bed chalets for wheelchair users as it really does limit you, and I can't believe they locked the disabled toilets!! They did tell me that at Prestatyn all the events will be on one level - no lift to break down!!!

Pontins aren't great, but they are a means for us all to go, and to get anywhere better would at least double the costs, and I for one can only afford to go with the GOGOF offer, so any more and that would put me and lots of other out.

I'm hoping that they might move around the country and allow everyone a chance to go to a weekender without a huge journey, I know for me the Pakefield Pontins would make a huge difference as it would only be a couple of hours away as a 6 hour journey (Camber Sands) for me is about to become nearly 10 hours (Prestatyn), as I have to make lots of stops as travelling is so painful.

It was a great weekend with some problems but overall the atmosphere, the lovely people I met, and all the activities mean that the bad things are forgotten.

Some highlights for me -
Thursday night spent talking to Robert Rankin and the wonderful SFX crew.
Friday - Forum Breakfast, met George Takei (gentleman) and we came joint 8th in the quiz - go team Jaffa Cake (thanks Verity78, Evil Ash, RossNemesis, Kaotician and other members)
Saturday - Craig Charles, Terry Pratchett, Robert Rankin hosting the awards, Baby Davros, Meeting Steven Moffatt and spending a long while talking to his lovely and talented wife Sue.

Can't wait for next year. Baby Davros has given me ideas - perhaps the wheelchair is due some adjustments?!

Just adding my (delayed) Thanks to the Staff and Crew who arranged and set up a brilliant weekend!

Also good to catch up with people and meet and put faces to names. Also good meeting new people who are on the same wavelength! Had fun from beginning to end!

Sooo close on the quiz this year! but congrats to the winning team!
Costumes for the Maskerade Ball this year we're outstanding! so good job all round!

The guests were fantastic, and Robert Rankin was yet again superb at the awards!

And those who seem to think that Evil Ash doesn't seem that Evil, You reallly dont know him!! (He eats puppies!!)

All in all a brilliant weekend, and somehow i dont think anything else this year will top it!!!
I really hope i'm around for next year (fingers crossed)

Thanks Again everyone!!!
