I have several short stories on the go at the moment:
  • Untitled 1: Principally about death, and guilt, the story takes place on a train.

Untitled 2: There's a Lovecraft feel to this one. It's about an ice road trucker who is stalked on his journey over the ice.

Untitled 3: A character piece about a man who cannot die.

I also have a couple of novel ideas on the simmer. The first about the man who couldn't die, but told from the point of view of the characters whose lives he changes. The second is an existential comedy I've been playing around with for a couple of years. To be honest, I don't think I'm good enough to pull it off yet, so it'll probably be kicking around for a while.

It is my intention this year to get published in short story form (I've literally given myself till Dec 31st 2009.) I also started a blog to give myself a little bit of motivation (i.e. make me feel guilty when I don't write), but I also do random Sci-Fi related news stories. Check it out:

Hi Anar

Are you going to submit one of your short stories for Pulp Idol this year (assuming there is one) if not why not send one to The Tiny Globule site get it posted up on there. There's also Pantechion that Troo on the forum does.

Of my on going projects I have now completed The Mighty Quinn which started as my Nanowrimo entry, I have a full cast list and locations and a rough story mapped out ready for Scriptfrenzy in April and I am now working on the second draft of Fear No Evil a pilot/first episode of a thriller/conspiracy story.

Universities and Literary Agents like portfolio's, which means I have to build one up. Which means a lot of short stories to write, a lot of scripts to be writing and some profile building.

So, bubbling ideas...

1) Ultimate Dave - a TV comedy intended for BBC3 (I have "Clone" to beat)
Solar powered Superhero "Ultimate Dave" lives in London and dreams of life as a Super Hero in Sunny California, but the US doesn't need a lightweight like him.

2) My new Script Frenzy idea, Earth is at War, well... it's part of an intergalactic war and one side is invading earth for resources. This is meant to be epic in scope with a Cloverfield styled approach to the action. Giant Robots and Really Giant Robots abound.

Earth's sole viable tactic: Be more trouble than we're worth.

My Scriptfrenzy piece is the other side of the coin. Alien invasions have always been Earth the victim fighting and invading army, my take is an alien planet that Earth has claimed as its own and begun to colonise with no consideration for the native population (colonisation of the New World has a double meaning here) and now the natives are fighting back.

Its a mix of war story and survival with a bit of Rourke's Drift thrown in.

Hi Kahless

Yeah I want in on Pulp Idol this year. I was going to enter last year, but didn't get the chance. I think I already know which story I'm going to submit. Thinking ahead here.

Thanks for the heads-up on Tiny Globule! My research hadn't pulled this up so much appreciated.

Your idea on the reverse invasion sounds excellent. There is a lot you could do with that. Where you thinking of playing with Imperial themes? Y'know like India v Britain - you could show the Ghandi's and the violent freedom fighters too.

Look, you got me all carried away here

I'm planning on going with the humans thinking the natives are pretty primative, they have no real language and live in family groups, but then have the natives prove the humans wrong. I started this as a novel but its been ongoing for a long time and not really got anywhere so I'm going to have a go at it as a screenplay, in the novel it I went for a Rourke's Drift story in set on another planet with the humans prevailing in the end. This time round I'm uncertain who the winner will be, if any.

I had a similar revervse invasion idea, except the primitive natives bleed highly corrosive acid, and their planet was highly acidic. The natives wouldn't understand why these invaders would take over a world vulnerable to their "water".

I haven't written much of late although there was a couple of fanfics I did mean to start on plus I had hoped to try and start the writers circle up again.

I did have a wonderful idea for a time travel series though and I'd love to start a novel on it but I'm not sure I would have enough material. Still I suppose I'll never know unless I start writing.

sorry kahless i haven't checked this thread for ages

the sitcom/drama idea is called THE DOLE, about three people who lose their jobs and become friends on the dole. To be honets i'm struggling with it. The characters are doign the right stuff but i'm just thinking there's no reason for them to be on the dole other than not having to go to work so they can hang out together more. need to work on it.

still doing the prep on the futuristic detective script.

loving some of your ideas. How much do you write? had any successes?

Sounds like a good idea; reminds me a little of Only When I Laugh where you hardly ever knew what illness the 3 guys had. Have you thought of giving these guys criminal records or disabilities to hinder them from working. Some people are even told they are overqualified for jobs when they just want to work.
