Seems it was an official thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Godfather_Saga

Apparently it did see a VHS and laserdisc release.

I've seen the first 40 minutes of the first one - which was enough

I've seen about twenty minutes of the second one, a city siege which looked quite thrilling, then the giant spider turned up and I made my excuses and left....

In one of the couch potato articles someone said that there was still about forty minutes left when all the battles is over and the ring is destroyed. Gotta say I never noticed that, to me it seems like ten minutes top.

Annie Hall or Manhatten are the ones you should go for.

I'll also briefly stand up for Godfather Part III, yes Sofia Coppola is not an actress but it does have some good stuff in it> I always felt it's not that bad, actually ok just vastly overshadowed by the other two which are towering achievements.

It was utterly captivating, even if it was one of those "3/4 hour epic films with long silent shots of the main actor looking concerned", and I thought the whole bromance between Spartacus and Antinonus was both heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measure. I see now why the chap in Clueless was such a big fan :P
I bought Spartacus for £2 late last year as I'd never seen it before and loved it.

But on another subject, isn't LoveFilm great? I was recently given a free membership for 3 months by Carphone Warehouse as a gift for being on my contract for a year and I've been using it to check out a lot of films I've not seen, along with a couple I've not seen in a long time. When my free memberships up I may just sign up to them on a monthly basis.

So far I've seen

The Graduate - which was excellent.
Empire of the Sun - criminally underrated Spielberg film with an outstanding debut performance from Christian Bale, who's a far cry from Patrick Bateman, Bruce Wayne and Dicky Eklund.
The Enforcer & The Dead Pool - definitely the lesser of the Dirty Harry sequels but still entertaining enough.
Magnolia - alright if a bit overhyped.
Rashomon - see above.
Leon - quite good.
Following - solid debut from Christopher Nolan and almost a dry run for Memento and The Prestige.
The Third Man - watchable but I didn't really see what all the fuss was about.

I've currently got eight rentals left on my free membership and have the following films on my rental list, none of which I've seen before.

Beetlejuice
Dances With Wolves
Dark City
Deep Impact
THX 1138
The Crow
The Goonies
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold

I also bought Crimson Tide for £1.50 the other day and watched it all the way through for the first time ever as I'd only ever seen bits of it on tv. I enjoyed it a lot, but then I can enjoy nearly anything with Gene Hackman in it.

I've only ever read the first Harry Potter book and seen one of the later films, and didn't have much clue what was going on. People at work kept asking me if I was gonna watch the last 2 films at the cinema as everyone who knows me knows I'm a regular cinema goer but I've decided to give the books a read at some point before I give the films a watch.

The Godfather III is utter tosh.

I'm curious to see what that's like myself as The Godfather I & II are two of my favourite films. I know I could just do it with my dvds but that means a bit of faffing around.

I don't think Godfather III is nearly as bad as it's made out to be. It's certainly a comedown from the first 2 films but it's not without it's moments. I haven't watched it nearly as many times as the first 2 films as I need to be in the right mood for it but I'll sometimes stick it on just to watch select bits of it.

You know it took me a minute to work out where that was from.

To my shame, I've still never watched it! (Call myself a movie lover, tsk).

But in my defense I have watched Hawk the Slayer and Moon Zero Two!

Oops, did I say that out loud?
