This is probably not a HUGE film but I remember a lot of talk about it at the time, watched You've Got Mail yesterday for the first time and found it was quite a nice film.

Did make me laugh the old fashioned AOL dial up though.

I still haven't watched

Avatar [or Titanic for that matter]
any of the Lord of the Rings films [snooze]
any of the Harry Potter films [people keep telling me what I'm missing but I'm like, yeah, whatever ]
lost interest in Gone with the Wind about one third of the way in
Ben Hur
Midnight Cowboy
any Woody Allen film
any western except Unforgiven

but I must have watched 2001 A space Odyssey about 20 times, Empire Strikes Back about 40 times and watched all of the Matrix films

go figure

They're both very much "watch-once" films for me. Spectacular and all that, but the actual story and characters are pretty "meh".

I sincerely hope they're talking about the books; don't bother until you've read them; the films are completely broken.

Hee -- I know what you mean, although I was very late to the party with Star Wars. Only just got round to watching the original version of "Star Wars" for the first time the other weekend. I dug it though! When I was growing up though, Back to the Future (and to a lesser extent, Indy) was my Star Wars. I can still watch any of those movies and never get bored.

As an aside, AOL are making a fortune each year (I've seen estimates for between $10M-$20M) by charging AOL customers for Modem access even when the customer hasn't access the Portal via a Modem in years

I believe the charge was that AOL would provide 1-800 numbers and the customer paid a flat monthly fee of $5 for using the 1-800 number. Many mistakenly believe the charge is for accessing AOL even though millions of others get the same access via the internet for no charge

don't bother

a friend of mine said it was the funniest cartoon he'd ever seen - I've laughed more at an alcoholic's funeral

Tropic Thunder falls into much the same category

the Coen remake is exceedingly crap, I'm only glad I never paid to watch it...

I've seen bits of EYEWTKASBWATA but not all of it, and bits of that one where he's in suspended animation, can't remember what its called

I actually only saw Star Wars after I'd seen Empire and Jedi, and thought Star Wars a bit poor by comparison, strange but true...but its grown on me

I can understand why SF fans might not like it

[Just don't tell anyone you loathed Akira, I did once and just about escaped with my life ]

Aw, didn't you like it? It was the film which actually turned me right around on Dreamworks, after being subjected only to some of their worst output like Madagascar and the Shrek sequels. It's at least worth checking out to see the Samurai Jack-inspired intro sequence.

I saw The Godfather I and II for the first time a couple of weeks ago. They were good and all, but I don't think they'll be going under my 'watch again and again list'

Also, although I've seen Terminator 2 and 3, I've still not seen The Terminator.

What got me though was this film was 1998, and yet they had laptops (OK big clunky looking laptops, but still laptops) and appeared to be using wireless (I never saw any modem wires anyway). Were the Americans that far ahead in 1998?
