Firstly, this wedding is your's and your fiances, NOT your mother in laws.

Secondly, start playing her at her own game, be extremely sweet and gentle when you tell her you now understand you have asked her to do to much and she obviosuly cannot cope anymore, so in order to help her (thats an important phrase) you have arranged for the cake to be done by someone else. Then get down to M&S, buy the cakes and get someone who is artistic to decorate them. They are generally nice cakes.

This wedding is YOURS so of course you want what you want, not what she dictates. She has a problem with that then tell her straight this is your one day and you are not going to make any alterations that are not absolutely necessary to what you want.

Of course she will probably end up despising you for the rest of your life, but you will outlive her, and she'll stay well away from the house as well. Bonus

I know that isn't what you want but you need to make a firm but polite stand here and now or she will rule you both for the rest of her unnatural life. Get your mothe ron side, that about evens things out as she'll make mince meat of the mother in law.

As to my weekend, I am about ready to commit a very messy murder.

It's not so much that there are problems with the cake that annoys me (It's ordered, but I've got to collect it and decorate it myself) it's more the fact that she never tells me this stuff directly, but complains to Nick, and he has the unenviable job of telling me that I've somehow offended her. Again.

AAARGH!

The last time this happened was at christmas, when, in order to get around the fact that we have nothing in common to talk about, I spent a lot of my time in our room reading instead of watching mindless reality TV and soaps with the family. Apparently this was very antisocial of me.

OH dear she does sound a spiteful old harridan. Afraid you need to talk to Nick and tell him straight you will no longer tolerate her interference in your lives. Its going to put Nickin a bad situation for alittle while but at the end of the day its the rest of your lives you are talking about.

In fact at some point before the wedding there will be one meeting where she and your mother are also present, prewarn Nick to keep his mouth shut if he knows what is good for him, then let your mother off her leash and allow her to tear the harridan to shreds. And you sit back and enjoy

Sorry Em but you need to draw some very thick black lines as to where your mother in law is allowed to come to but no further. Think what she will be like once she can start dripping poison into your childrens heads. Draw the lines now sweetheart or she will rule you.
