I got Beneath the Surface for £20 yesterday my Smiths freind Marie kept it for me i got it mostly off my points ive been saving even cheaper than online !!! .
What a set some cracking extras in fact i watched Warriors of the Deep first -ive got a real soft spot for it and yeah i cant help  when Ingrid Pitt tries to hai karate the Myrka -but at its heart theres a really dark war story as The Silurians and Sea Devil want both earth powers to destroy themselves so they can get the planet to themselves -talk about a well mannered war !!! -
the real meat and potatoes are all the documentaries especially - What Lies Beneath !!! and those isolated scores especially -Sea Devils -infact Sea Devils is the best ep in the set hands down im also looking forward to rewatching Silurians again yeah its a cracking set and ooh does it hint at a possible s4 re-match bring it on i say !!! .

Does it...? Is that hinted at at some point in the documentaries or are you thinking that they've brought it out to cash-in on a Series 4 reappearance...?

there used to be a lot of protestations (often repeated by me here) that 2|entertain did not base there release strategy on what was coming in NuHu - and that the Master's return in the New Beginings boxed set had nothing to do with the Master's return in season 3 of NuHu...

I think we can safely say that there are nods and winks - that maybe someone from Cardiff is telling someone from 2|e to prepare Sontaran episodes (I've also heard that this year's November special classic boxed set will be Sontaran flavoured and a digipack similar to the Davros set).

All I know for sure is that the Sontarans are an invention of Robert Holmes and I for one am looking forward to any of his stories being released and seeing him getting a credit on NuHu!

Davros box set....

hmmm following that arguement....

nah... bringing davros back would be a rubish plan... i mean that would be like Billy Piper coming back. it would cheapen their departure...

The only Robert Holmes-written Sontaran story was "The Time Warrior" which is already out. "The Invasion Of Time" is the only remaining Sontaran story and even then they're only in 2 episodes. I don't think Robert Holmes will be credited on the new series as creating The Sontarans or whatever - I think they fall into a grey area of their ownership being taken over by the BBC. No other Sontaran story has a credit for "Created by Robert Holmes" on so the new series is not obliged to put that on.

A box set would make sense to release as all Sontaran storries will be out if "The Invasion of Time" is released but bringing that out as a cash-in doesn't seem that best idea as IMO it doesn't show The Sontarans in their best light.

Im a little disappointed about the release schedule so far this year to be honest theres way better Hartnell stories than Time Meddler - The War Machines , The Chase and Keys of Marinus to name three its definately not a release for taking the day off your work plus theres hardly any extras -must do better BBC !! no doubt The -expanded Five Doctors will do this job and to be honest Invasion of Time is a bit crappy in my opinion for a gallifrey ep The Deadly Assasin is way superior !!! plus i hated that Castellan Kelner -why didnt he get the mind Probe !!!!?

The Time Meddler has to come out at some point so why not now ? I think that the releases are being scheduled pretty well - my view is that I'm not bothered what comes out as long as the releases carry on and at least keep up the pace we had last year. By the beginning of March we'll have had 5 stories out on DVD for 2008 - once, we used to get just 6 all year

As for the extras on The Time Meddler - well this is being treated as one of the "standard edition" ones, the same as The Sontaran Experiment, so it's RRP is £12.99 as opposed to £19.99 for the more extras-packed releases (of course you can get it way cheaper online !). Even though it's light on extras for a Who disc, there's still more on there than many sc-fi shows that come out on DVD.

It is quite possible that The Time Medler has been brought forward in the release schedule because of the death of Verity Lambert, who recorded a commentary for the story a few weeks befre her death.

With regards to the Invasion of Time, there is no indication of when it will be released execpt after Black Orchid. On the BBFC website there is no mention of the next release title on the "Coming Soon..." part of the Five Doctors DVD extras classification - there usually is.

Given the speed with which The Time Meddler has been released, it is just as likely that the Invasion of Time is a comparitively rushed opportuntisic release after the publication of the Sontaran photos in the autumn rather than collusion between 2entertain and the NuHu production team, especially as Doctor Who DVD team (in DWM) have said that originally "The New Beginnings" box-set was originally called "The Return of the Master" and if they had known about the Masters return to NuHu the box-set would have stayed as the original title.
