"I don't know, on this occasion, that the thinking particularly came from me, actually. I've always been open to anything that shakes [the series] up. I think that decision actually came from the BBC. But I've been well up for anything that we can do to shake up the transmission pattern, the way we deliver it to the audience and how long we make the audience wait, simply because that makes Doctor Who an event piece. The more Doctor Who becomes a perennial, the faster it starts to die. You've got to shake it up, you've got to keep people on edge and wondering when it will come back. Sherlock is the prime example, as far as that goes. Sherlock almost exists on starving its audience. By the time it came back this year, Sherlock was like a rock star re-entering the building! So keeping Doctor Who as an event, and never making people feel, 'Oh, it's lovely, reliable old Doctor Who - it'll be on about this time, at that time of year'. Once you start to do that, just slowly, it becomes like any much-loved ornament in your house - ultimately invisible. And I don't want that to ever be the case." Blah-blah Try giving us better Doctor Who, not an event. |

*Please do not take my paragraph above seriously, I think it's a crap idea. Moffat is wrong as he clearly has never heard of Returning Drama or Soaps, which are run on a near-continuous production loop as there is a vast public demand for them. They may be "a much-loved ornament" but when they're not on, my god do the public moan. In fact if there is one thing that's sure-fire to kill a series it's buggering about with its schedule to such an extent that people find it inconvenient to fit around their lives. Sure Columbo worked but only because of Peter Falk. As for the rest of the programmes on my link I've only ever heard of Quincy... Guess the others weren't that popular in the end.

Actually, I think The Moff has a point; the more they move it around and kneed it into new shapes, the more interesting it hopefully becomes.

I tend to agree with Paulky I think Moff isn't talking about a single episode version of Who but making a 7 year old show have a re- launch. Last year was getting daft with the Spring start times all over the place so a nice sensible autumn slot may help keep a live audience high - rather than watch it this weekend in the sun and heat

I dont care when they show it, as long as the episodes are entertaining and actually make sense.

I don't want a single episode version of Who but neither do I want them to keep changing its broadcast position all the time. I didn't think last year worked that well (mostly because the cliffhanger was a bit daft compared to the previous week). I wonder with the influence of Pat Troughton on the Moff era if a deliberate decision was made to give us a Series 6 a&b much like there was always talk of an unseen Season 6b after Season 6. Possibly as an in-joke? Quote:
Right, let's return to topic... Matt Smith with an Olympic (TM) torch! Well, I suppose we did expect A Doctor to turn up. Not sure why there are so many celebrities though, I thought the torch was supposed to be for the general public, you know - the whole reason they make people vote for the most deserving in the community to carry it? Wonder if Matt'll eBay it?

Secondly why all this talk of a relaunch, like Perdide says here; that was the Eleventh hour, something must be worng if people talk of that. |
