Damn, someone stole my idea for a thread.
And I won't believe that until it actually happens. Even if the god Nolan says it. - - - - - As everyone else says, to do a JL movie would seem to jump on Marvel coat tails ; but then realistically it's probably at least 6 years away, so people might be keen to see something new by then. You could just jump straight in with a JL film without backstory character films, but that's probably far too risky. So they'd have to establish some of the lesser known ones in their own films (or maybe pair a couple up together in one). Batman, Superman. Wonder Woman is pretty well known but still needs a filmic launch. As for the rest, as I'm not a comic geek, they're only vaguely known to me. I think Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Aquaman gives a unique variety. Green Arrow in most non-comic book minds would be much too like Hawkeye, and you wouldn't want two Greens in a film. More characters than this (probably too many already) and its too unwieldy to either film all the separate films, or to then weld them together in one film. - - - - - Of course there is another way to have a take on this, and that is to continue with the grittier feel of the current Batman films. The advantage of this is that - recasting aside - they don't have to bother re-inventing or re-establishing the universe. Batman could continue for a fourth film as currently, to keep the interest up (and the money rolling in). We don't know what feel the new Supes film will have, but Nolan is producing it, and Warners will be keen to steer it away thematically from the Donnerverse. Green Lantern is a bit more awkward. But if the Hulk has gone through two iterations, and three actors, it should be possible. As for the rest, they have no film presence at all, so you can have any take you want on the characters and the world they inhabit. The other advantage with this darker universe is that it would contrast rather differently to the lighter Marvel universe.

I'd like to see them actually get successfull non-Batman movies made first(and I think that other than Wonder Woman, a Flash one she be their next step), and I'd also like a Superman/Batman team up movie before a full on Justice League one.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it had already happened and WB were looking for writers and already had Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas will produce.

I'd love to see it done well but they'd have to start from scratch and build up the characters properly in a coherent world. I loved the way the Avengers movie was informed by the individual franchises without being bogged down by them. Little moments like when Tony Stark's history as a weapon's manufacturer is brought or the relationship betwen Thor and Loki have a bit more meaning if you see the previous films.
I groaned along with everyone else when they said they were rebooting Batman but I'm kind of coming around to the idea now. Brilliant as the Nolan films are I'd actually quite like to see a slightly more fantastical take on the character (but still treated seriously and not in a campy Batman and Robin way). If they could do a decent take on Wonder Woman that would be a huge step in the right direction. There has yet to be a half-way decent female superhero movie.

Could it look something like this? Doug Jones for Martian Manhunter is a no-brainer really.

Much as I love Batman, I don;t think he works particularly well in a team. I'd liove to see a JLA movie with a Batman cameo, like Wolverine's in X Men First Class. They pop to Gotham to ask him for help with their intergalactic/dimensional/mcguffin threat, he tells them to get lost and beats up some thugs.

I think they'd be better of just going for a Justice League film outright..
BUT, Batman would need to be rebooted - Nolan/Bale Bats is not comic/JL Bats by a LONG shot.. Batman can hold his own against much more powerful beings because of his brilliant mind, his incredible agility and a plethora of gadgets - NONE of which are really applicable to the current movie Batman. He'd get stomped. In seconds. I actually think a Batman pitched along the lines of the recent Arkham Asylum/City games would be ideal, it still feels relatively grounded but keeps the more fantastical elements/rogues gallery of the comics and portrays Batman as being extremely capable in a fight where he should be outmatched.. We've yet to see anything of Man of Steel, but you can imagine they have been paying at least some attention to Marvel's runaway success and must be considering ways to link upcoming films together.. DC has a bit of a leg-up in having fewer characters that need a lengthy introduction.. Batman and Superman - everyone knows who they are and what they're about. Green Lantern might not have performed well but at least people are aware of the character.. Wonder Woman is still reasonably established in the public consciousness, but possibly quite differently from the modern version's powers/origins. It still leaves them a lot less to do.. There's no need to do much in the way of origins for everyone - perhaps treat the characters as already established in the world and have at least one or two of the established team know about (or have already met the others) when they are recruited. The essence of a character such as The Flash isn't really that difficult to do in a couple of minutes.. More complex depth can wait for a full movie of his own.. |

I don't know why anyone thinks it would be difficult to do. Batman and Superman don't need establishing. Everyone knows all they need to know. Tell the story initially from WondernWoman's point of view. There is a threat posed to both Paradise Island and the rest of Earth, the Amazons are attacked. Cue the need to send a champion out to the mans world. Off she goes. The threat turns out to be extra terrestrial but has decimated the Green Lantern Corps, so GL seeks out help. He brings together Bats and Supes, and they cross paths with Wondy, who assumes theyre bad guys. They settle their differences, unite against the common threat - Starro or whatever. ta da. Done.
It's an intro to WW, relaunches Bats and is a sequel to GL. Bring Aquaman, Flash etc in the sequel. |
