Perhaps we should ask that a sphincter be added to each of the Olympic 'rings'...

it should probably be taken with a huge pinch of salt. It presents none of the arguements against desalination and calls the World Wildlife Fund "hardline greens" this is not an impartial article. They have take select facts only. They claim Thames Water would want to build lots of desalination plants however the one they have they hardly use even though its full functional and there are no barriers to its use. The question you have to ask is why would a water company build an expensive plant and then not use it in times of drought? Could it be because even they dont think desalination is a practicle solution?

Desalinisation is another one of those processes that was hyjacked by big business. Its always referenced as being prohibitivly expensive for arid regions. Which is strange when small scale desilisation process are almost costless. Things such as solar stills etc are massivly cheap and the most basic model for desalination is a greenhouse full of salt water linked to a dark underground room*. An advanced version would be a greenhouse full of saltwater loving plants linked in the same way (making the whole process dual producing). It seems to me that its a lack of innovative thinking rather than prohibitive pricing that stops it being used more widely.
*Not really a vaible option for the UK thanks to our ample cloud.

So, it appears Nick Stahl has gone missing.
http://www.newsday.com/entertainment...firm-1.3722362 Is there some kind of curse against actors who played the role of John Connor? It seems like there is! Edward Furlong has had trouble over the years, now Nick Stahl; it seems like Christian Bale suffered a bit of a flip out during Terminator Salvation and whoever it was who played him in the SCC TV series has apparently had a bit of an incident with someone on a bike (or so I hear anyway). Is this another film franchise like Superman with a bit of a curse against it... Or has Skynet just got really good at finding and getting to all these John Conners without having to use a huge Austrian sounding cyborg?

Quite possibly. As far as I know he's alive and made a film recently.

He's turned up in a comparatively recent guest starring role on CSI: NY, playing a reoccurring villain - drugs and time have not been kind to him.

In celebrity news, Jim Parsons (BBT's Sheldon, obv.) has chosen to come out. One more positive role model for all those SSO young geeks out there Unless Parsons is an berk, of course...

Interesting article in today's Daily Telegraph about next steps in medicine and trauma treatment, inspired by a doctor with a love of sci-fi. Quite a positive piece for a change.
