Default SFX 222 What Do You Think?

Hi there

The new issue hits shelves today with a packed alien theme and big stories on Prometheus and Men In Black 3:

Have you got it? What do you think? All feedback welcome.

Cheers, Dave

Got it last week, great issue as always.

Highlight: Dave Golder's comparison of special effects on Fringe to Once Upon a Time and Grimm. Very amusing

Lowlight: Rereading my comments in print. Somehow what sounds fine on the forum, I think, make me sound like a total prat on paper (or maybe I just have a terrible self-image). At least this week I wasn't the only critical opinion in the book club.

I have to say I was delightfully surprised as well when it turned up on Friday, I didn't even realise they'd finished printing!

Another great issue. The thing is though, I 've become morbidly sensitive about spoilers so I can't read the Prometheus article yet, nor the Avengers review.

I enjoyed the article about the War(s) of the Worlds that never were - imagine a runaway pram rolling down the steps on The Embankment as a Martian tripod strides up The Thames in Eisenstein's version.

The Book Club is always an interesting and illuminating read. This month's was particularly good, I wish Seanan McGuire had been given more space to discuss The Midwich Cuckoos. From the lukewarm responses to the book by forum members I think some of them would have been happier with a novelisation of The Bloodening, that wonderful film we see in The Simpsons, rather Wyndham's classic.

Also, fabulous to see Katee Sackhoff on page 17 - what magnificent teeth she has!

My copy arrived last Saturday but nearly went into the bin as the sheet of paper with my address on it also had "have your say" on it and made it look like some electorial propaganda

As always a pleasant read.

But SFX the last page on The Shadow was poor, such a great character on one page only.

You forgot to mention too that cuurently the old pulp adventures are being reprinted so that new readers can get an idea of what this was all about.

Marginal mention of the influence that the SHadow had on the Radio serials of its day. Or on the character Batman and his origins.

A missed opportunity.

It's great. It's always great.

Not sure about Mr.Bradley's attempt to explain why Men In Black 3 is more exciting than Prometheus or TASM (urgh), in his intro though!

excellent stuff as usual - the bits on Prometheus and War of the World are worth reading and re-reading, and SFX shares my "Yeah, it's good...but..." view of The Avenger...

well worth the money this month...
