The Fist of the First men looked a bit more desolate than I read it but was awesome. The Half-Hand was immense.

Was that mad Kings Landing preacher the future high septon?? Was he being played by Edward Tudor Pole?

I did wonder if they are starting to foreshadow what is to come later on. In the books the whole religious fanaticism seemed to happen rather quick I felt. One book nothing and then the next this whole movement had sprung up and was marching across the kingdoms.

That's the benefit and the curse of the Book's restricted POV's and the Series' Omniscient narrative in some ways I suppose.

This thing that was off to the side on the way to the Pyromancer's can be shown and if that's a symptom of what's looming or indeed the actual future High Septon then hinting now rather than a vastly changed landscape around AFfC time won't seem as much a surprise.

But, on the other hand, in the books I read a certain level of ambiguity around Margery. It could have been her family doing all the scheming and her a pawn and I like the ambiguity inherent in the POV chapters. Now, from her introduction pretty much in the show we know already that she is a bit of a Mini-Cersei but (probably) without the incest.

The look on my other half's face when I told her that she would be marrying the little boy from the first couple of episodes was priceless.

I'll still read the books with the ambiguity (well, I mean when the next one comes out I may well be drawing a pension but, you know) but I think the ambiguity is more interesting that making the character clear. Same applies to the conception of the Stannis Shadow. I didn't want or need to know how it was conceived and it detracts from the mystery of Melisandre, for me anyway.

I'm surprised that tehre hasn't at least been a throw away line yet about how much of Rob's success is thanks to the Frey's.

And finally (cos I've gone on a bit), Did anyone want to throw a brick of common sense at Bran and Maester Luwin when Ser Roderick came to tell tehm about Torren's square? 200 men, leaving Winterfell undefended. I know that I knew/know what's coming and we'd pretty much been told Theon's plan earlier but come on.

I suppose to answer that we need to know how many men Winterfell can field on its own. I'm assuming a high number went south with Robb but I don't think for a moment he would have only left 200 men behind to defend his two younger brothers and ancestral seat.

I know the Starks were Kings of the North, and since they bent the knee to the Targaryan's they were Lords of the North, but their lands sit alongside other lands - Umbers, Boltons, Tallharts - so Winterfell must have its own army outside of the combined northern force.

I had the feeling perhaps Luwin prompted Bran someway into that course of action so he could show he was a true Stark and fit to call himself Lord of Winterfell.

The post in the link has been updated now with possible Shireen Baratheon and Daario Naharis casting calls. So looks like maybe Shireen hasn't been cut, but worryingly Daario is appearing earlier than ADwD.

Well, that would be right, cos Daario was first introduced in Storm o' Swords. Dany was pining after Daario all the way through ADwD and he was commanding one of her companies/armies from Storm.

Thankfully I appear to have wiped all memory of the pointless scroat from my memory prior to him in ADwD. Because of him Dany's arc throughout that book was even more pointless because she was mooning over him all the time.

See, derogatory as I was about the entire superfluous nature of (edit - pretty much) all 900 odd pages of a Feast for Crows, I can handle Dany's arc in ADwD because it got us to her end point in that book and her epiphany, which I liked.

I've just had a thought. In the TV only thread someone asked about the ages of the children, and there was a comment about how Maisie Williams looks older this year.

This got me wondering, it was GRRMs original intention for there to be a 5 year leap forward in time between the end of ASoS and (what was then the 4th book) ADwD. The idea was events would have moved on, the war ended and the main child characters grown up a bit.

What if the TV series has decided to re-introduce this leap forward? It would certainly solve the problem of the child actors out-aging their character's.

So I've read the writers have the permission of GRRM to deviate from the books if needed.
