Just finished The Fall Of Billy Hitchings by Kirkus MacGowan - 24 meets X-Files.
Started Sweet Justice a collection of short stories from 2000AD centred around Judge Dredd at the same time reading Dodge & Twist: A Sequel To Oliver Twist by Tony Lee. Then I should finally get round to The Wind Through The Keyhole by Stephen King.

I'm in the early chapters of Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, as I really enjoyed The Diamond Age. First impression: A lame parody of the worst excesses of the cyberpunk genre and a load of tedious bollocks.
Unfortunately I'm cursed with the inability to discard a book I've started (I even waded through the Mission Earth books once), so I'm kinda hoping it picks up later on.

John Connolly - The Unquiet
So far very good, the accompanying cd does help with setting the mood. Last edited by saint mark; 05-05-2012 at 12:43 PM. |

What I've found is, there is very rarely a book that I'm not glad I've read through to the end. There's always something in them worth sticking around for - even if that's the joy which comes through feeding the effin' thing through the shredder...

It improves further into the book, as I recall. But it's not as great as Diamond Age - I love the bit at the start where a certain literary genre takes a long walk off a short ... well, I expect you know the scene I mean..

It did improve significantly when the Sumerian plotline kicked off, but the initial overblown adventures of the mafia-backed ninja pizza-delivery boy and all around badass hacker Hiro Protagonist really stretch the absurdist elements to breaking point.
