I went to see it again last night and still loved it when I saw it last week.
Tried to be a bit more objective and got too distracted by the fanboy moments and focus on the overall story, hints of what other references alluded to in the comics universe, confirming lines, understanding peolple's criticism/plotholes. The Hulk moments are still just as funny second time round and it is great when the audience is still laughing well after back-slapping Thor. I want a working model of the heli-carrier. First time round, I noticed that the Black Widow was in a state of "shock/scared" after getting swapped by the Hulk but she came round to fight Hawkeye. Watching it second time round, I think I could understand the fear as when she first met Banner and he "provoked" her she looked disticntively uneasy, couple this with her chat with Loki and being called a "melwing q***" into my top 10 of classic lines , I wondered if she questioned her capabilities in the company of the super-powered others, she is merely a highly trained human but she gets over it and Hawkeye notices the change. And I am sure Stark says "Let's go legolas" when he picks up Hawkeye. Of the lines RDJ had, 90% ended in a quip/joke/"last word". And why is Thanos red? I though he was a greyish/purple colour in the comics? In many ways we have become over-familiar with the plot of some form of jeopardy and the heores defeat/overcome it. This is a classic stroy-telling trope from the beginning when stories were first told. There are ultimately so many variations on a theme that can be concocted. OK in the Avengers this was probaly slightly below average and possibly better motviation for why the Chitauri were involved could have been explained but because of the film medium there is a "finite" running time to ensure an effective movie but as we have all seen many fall short, TV series has less of a problem it can really build up densly layered/plotted arcs etc. I was a big Marvel fan through the 80's to the early 90's and to me the film really takes a lot from that rich & diverse Universe but shot through with the Ultimate line to make it more modern and up to date (IM was injured in Vietnam and BW was a child at Stalingrad orignally!). And as I said in my first post to this thread.... That's the way you do a superhero film!!! |

Well I'm not sure how they're gonna top that?
Whedon did a masterful job of combining all the disparate elements into a cohesive whole. It all just seemed to work so well. Never have nearly two and a half hours passed so quickly for me. Now I'm a big fan of Nolan's Batman films but he's clearly going for something different with his films, this was the closest, purest version of a comic book on film that there has ever been. I'm not sure if this version of the Hulk would work on his own but in a team he's pure gold. "Puny god." Poor Coulson! I loved that guy. What a film.

I'm willing to bet only the hardcore comic fans knew who that was at the end smiling and laughed at the joke.
Nice tip of the hat to the fanboys in this age of pandering to the noobs. Good ol' Joss.

I think the only complaint I had for the film was my jaw was aching from all the grinning... Oh, and Agent Coulson dying... Still amazing film and I will probably end up seeing it again.
I may post a proper-ish review at some point...

What a rush....... completely lived up to all the hype, went to see it last night, and still grinning on the train into work this morning. Someone said on here "thats how to make a Super Hero Movie", I 2nd that.
I was going to be reserved about how they handle the hulk, considering the last 2 outings, however its the best he has looked yet. Best bit of the film, was the Loki and Hulk encounter....... had the audience in stitches. Will definatley be seeing it again, lets hope now they don't cock up the individual sequels and then Thanos for the Avengers sequel

He had that on most of the film, considering how hot it must be in the suit he must have been a bit whiffy by the end.
