how would that help if the arrow was stuck in your flesh?

I would guess that he means the undamaged fabric would be pushed into your flesh along with the arrowhead so that you could pull it all back out safely wrapped in nice smooth silk rather than having the bare metal merrily ripping big chunks of meat along with it or breaking off and remaining inside - you'd still have a hole in you but it would be a less severe injury than the alternative ^_~

I wonder if the bullet myth comes from the past, in the 1800s bullets were generally removed by surgeons if someone was shot. IIRC this was actually because the wound would go septic. The particular worry was not rmeoving the bullet, which, if it was survivable anyway, was relatively simple, but rather also removing the clothing that the bullet carried in to the wound, which often required the surgeon to scrape around inside the wound. People duelling with pistols often did so without shirts to avoid this.

Reminds me of that scene in 'Master and Commander' were the doctor is accidently shot.

Military helicopters do not explode if they crash to the ground from 20 or 30 feet. (See broken arrow)

....unless their fuel tanks are punctured by SAMs or triple-A fire...even the underwing ordnance on a AH-64 Apache tends not to explode in a crash unless the heat from a fire makes their warheads & propellant "cook off"

picture the scene:
a spaceship is orbiting a planet and in the background we see millions of twinkly stars.

IRL the light reflected by the planet below would make it impossible for you to see anything else.

The magic defibrilator!
see the TVtropes page on that myth:

And even if there was no light to reflect off the planet, those stars shouldn't be twinkling!

Swords aren't heavy. Even a ceremonial zweihänder such as Ice in the Game of Thrones tv show wouldn't weigh much more than 10-12 lbs. A bastard sword would weigh in at around 5-8 lbs and a one handed sword would usually weigh somewhere between 1.5-3lbs.
