ok 2 or 3 books i read as a teenager involved a guy who was friendly with a girl who had a purple fringe and was possibly a witch

one story involved them trying to get into a village in the country but there was magic used and the hedge around the village appeared to have to way in

Girl in village is sent (or possibly kidnapped) to serve a young sexy vampire lord in the mountains. his previous 6 wifes have all had their souls drained and are some kind of wraiths. some kind of Gnome who lives close to the castle help her, and they hatch a plan. She goes to get a pegasus hoof in the hope of making a potion to kill him. she is helped by various mystical creatures on the way (including a lion, i think) and comes back with the hoof. on her "wedding night" when he will also drink her soul, she realises the loves him, and rather than kill him, she uses the potion to replace his blood, and swaps her heart with his (his is covered in lead, but the gnome melts that off)

it's left open for a cliff-hanger, when they plan to go and kill the witch who made him into a vampire

it MAY be set on a terraformed moon. it was all quite dreamy and mystically written

The Darkangel by Meredith Ann Pierce. It's the first in a trilogy - the others are A Gathering of Gargoyles and The Pearl of the Soul of the World.

I haven't actually read this book, but I read a review at the time and it sounded interesting. For the life of me can't remember what it's called. Thought it was The Sleeper but can't find anything to match.

It's a recent book, published a year or so ago, about a man who wakes up to an empty world. He travels across Europe trying to figure out what happened. As time goes on, he increasingly becomes aware that somebody is undoing the work he does during the day - and comes to suspect that another personality is taking over him when he is 'asleep'.

Any ideas?

Default "KOPEC"

I vaguely remember reading a short story, many years ago, that I very much want to know the title and author of.
The sketchy details I do recall are that a bunch of astronauts visit a strange planet, searching for previous expedition which has gone missing. They encounter aliens (monkey-like?) which keep making a sound like `Kopec` (or some similar spelling). At the end of the story it is revealed that the aliens are actually the people they are looking for, and that the `Kopec` sound is them trying to warn them to `Go back`.
Any ideas? I recall this story was in an illustrated collection of horror/sci-fi stories, which I borrowed from library - and I'd very much like to track it down (if not the actual book, the story itself).

Help?

If you want something done...

Found out what this is now. Night Work by Thomas Glavinic. Apparently he's German and the review I saw was for the English translation. Will have to keep my eyes out for it
