Found (and commented) on an article in the American Conservative about the show, in which writer Daniel J. Flynn discusses the circumstances and motivations behind the decision to put so much of the show's first few years to the torch.
It's an interesting read, but Flynn's overall point that a) bureaucracy and unions are bad and b) Who fans are more interested in blaming private hoarders for the lack of returned episodes both strike me as pretty weak, to put it mildly. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Oh, is that the point he was going for... He really doesn't make it very well. It just seems like an angry Who fan wandered into the wrong blog...

Quote:
It read to me like someone learned that a public body burned some stuff that's now really valuable and then went out and did some perfunctory research. Certainly I've never in my entire life heard a Who fan complain about private collectors hogging stuff, and I've been a fan and known other fans since literally longer than I can remember. EDIT: Having said all that, I think I see his point more clearly perhaps because I've read enough stuff from this publication to recognise the hobby horse Flynn has clambered onto.

Somebody tell this guy that it's only recently that they've managed to find a decent tape of the first Superbowl, which was wiped by TWO networks.
On the other hand, if it wasn't for those pesky unions, we'd have a DVD of "DImensions of Time".... |
