Friday morning Forum Breakfast!

At the Sheffield meet this past weekend, some of us were talking about how disappointing it was that we didn't get to meet all the forumistas who went to the last Weekender. Then we had a cunning idea.

Since many of us have VIP/Gold+ tickets, we'll be arriving on Thursday evening. On Friday, we assume the official events will kick off around lunchtime again.

So from 10 am on Friday morning, all forumistas are invited to meet for breakfast in the restaurant. It'll be a great opportunity to meet people you only know as avis and words on a screen. That way we don't all have to spend the weekend trying to find people without knowing what they look like! If you're not staying Thursday night, just arrive a little earlier than you might otherwise have planned.

It doesn't matter if you've been around since the very earliest message board days or join between now and the Weekender itself: all are welcome.

I've been thinking about this.

When we did the first Offtopica meet back in 2006 I designed some badges to wear and asked people to pitch in with whatever sci-fi/fantasy characters they wanted on them. I remember doing badges with a Dalek, Darth Vader, Optimus Prime, Illyria, Link, Sawyer, Mal Reynolds, Kaylee, Jayne's hat and even Bill Bailey. I don't think anyone wore them though, I remember having one on under my coat, but then they weren't proper badges and just printouts.

I'm willing to do the same again though, perhaps as badges or name places. They could be lamintaed or something. Here's the basic idea:



The Tenth Doctor would be replaced with whatever you wanted and I could eitehr add a name or leave it blank for filling in later.

I think that's a jolly good idea, Moloch, if you were willing to do it for us. Maybe we could have our SFX usernames on them too? I recall someone made LJ username badges for a SPN Convention I went to and although we didn't have a formal meet-up it really helped when you ran into LJ peeps in queues or in the bar.
