Default Rise/Dawn of The Planet of The Apes

Now I've not been interested in this film since I read it was going to happen but having read about it in the latest SFX's '2011 Preview' (far too early for a preview I might add) I can't help but feel a bit excited about it.

As a fan of the original films since aslong as I can remember and someone who doesn't mind the Tim Burton reimagine I think this new film could end up to be really interesting.

I'd agree with the SFX team when they say this doesn't need a twist ending (why would it infact?) and I think it could stand up as a great new movie series of it's own.

I look forward to seeing James Franco in the lead role and if the rumours are true that Andy Serkis is to be playing Ceaser I'm all for it.

So anyone else have an opinion?

*Edit

I forgot to add how much I loved the original 'Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes'.

"Where there is fire, there is smoke. And in that smoke, from this day forward, my people will crouch and conspire and plot and plan for the inevitable day of Man's downfall - the day when he finally and self-destructively turns his weapons against his own kind. The day of the writing in the sky, when your cities lie buried under radioactive rubble! When the sea is a dead sea, and the land is a wasteland out of which I will lead my people from their captivity! And we will build our own cities in which there will be no place for humans except to serve our ends! And we shall found our own armies, our own religion, our own dynasty! And that day is upon you... now!"

I liked the premise of the original Apes film, but the sequels got sillier and sillier. The Burton "reimagining" was toss though. I still don't get the end, although maybe this is me being thick. I just think that they should leave well alone now, come up with some new ideas, start adapting some sci fi/action novels and stop retreading old ground...

I would very much like to see a new POTA reboot work this time. I thought the Burton movie was ok, Tim Roth was amazing in it, but there was just too much daft stuff in there, and it felt too much like a film set rather than a big expansive jungle a lot of the time. but, I loved that whacky ending and would have loved to have seen a sequel, just to see what the hell happened to Marky m in that situation. I didn't understand the quantum mechanics or whatever of how he ended up there either, Baselieus explained it ages ago on a thread and I don't think i was able to wrap my head around it when it was explained in as simple as possible terms there.

But as long as the movie has a good script and is not too rushed, i think they kind of are rushing it for a release next year, it could be good, and kickstart some more monkey business. The CG apes will at least be interesting to see, weta proved they could do a convincing simian in KK, so it will be quality CG design work, whether that translates into a consistent quality due to the timescale they have to work on will be another thing(rememeber the terrible diplodocus rampage in KK)

While I agree that Weta should be able to do good apes, I have to ask why are they doing CGI apes. One of the real successes of the Burton movie was the Ape make-up. And I am sure that costume and prosthetics would be cheaper than CGIing an entire movie.

Unless of course the design of the apes will be closer to the real ape they are evolved from, sothat an actor in a ape suit would no longer be the right shape. If thefinal look does look like an original or Burton ape, their would be no point CGIing it

That sounds silly and clichéd. Any ape sanctuary that didn't care about its subjects would soon be outed by the active conservation community.

Obviously talking, world conquering apes is vastly less silly.

We don't know the circumstances of the plot yet, it could be set in a future where such groups have been stomped out of existence by a tolatarian type government.
Or, y'know, Cox runs a tidy santuary, but at night he torments the monkeys by hosing them down, giving them banana skins stuffed with cotton wool etc

Charles Darwin did not think so, in fact in a chapter of his 'Origin of Species' that his editor insisted be taken out, he said that the apes we evolved from were in fact from the future, and had been given cotton wool bananas that helped bring on the evolution revolution.

Just watched the trailer.

Remember when Clash of the Titans came out and the punchline in the trailer was "Titans will Clash"? I see the website for Rise of the Planet of the Apes is www.apeswillrise.com.

Another great line from the Bleeding Obvious Marketing Company. I wonder what happens in POTC4: On Stranger Tides? Do the tides get stranger?
