Empire Online says DC are considering comic book "prequels and sequels and spin-offs" to The Watchmen, "and, of course, further movies".

Who would even want to take the gig? Even if Dave Gibbons tackled it solo, with Moore's blessing (unlikely i know, but for argument's sake) he'd be on a hiding to nothing.

A staggeringly stupid idea, and one which would lose DC the goodwill of a great many creators.

Nite Owl & Leather Specter vs THE SON OF OZYMANDIAS! :duh-duh-DURRRR!!!:
The Comedian: The Vietnam Years? The Revenge of Zombie Rorschach? SFX should do a spoof wishlist for this; I bet the collective brains of the forum... still couldn't come up with an idea stupid enough to do the concept justice. Quote:

Just imagine Watchmen 're-imagined' by Chuck Austen and Rob Liefield - the former would fixate on the strange lusts of the lycra-clad middle-aged, and the latter would explode with geek-gasmic joy at the prospect of getting his hands on The Comedian.

Or the Frank Miller version (modern Frank, not when-he-was-good Frank)....

They have already done something slightly in this vein with that Watchmen movie tie-in computer game. Some well known cb writer, Len Wein maybe, wrote up the plot and cut scenes for the game which dealed with Rorschach and Nite-Owl's early days taking down Big Figure and the gangs, based on what was alluded to in the book.
I'm sorry to say, but I would be buying these books if they did them, I would be more interested in prequels than a sequel though. Mostly because at least with the prequels, there is a timeline of Moore's there to follow, and with a good writer, they could do some fun and interesting comics. With a sequel though, can of worms, what would be immedialtely spoiled is that 'up in the air' quality of the ending to WM with that final panel. There could so easily be some right bad ideas coming after that story. |
