Default Classic Doctor Who DVD Releases - General Discussion

Don't know whether this has been done before, but can't find a thread for it, rather than single threads about the classic series releases, I thought it would be a good idea to have an ongoing thread. And to kick it off

Having just read that Time-Flight and Arc Of Infinity are to be released as a boxset(they really are testing us this year), but yet again there is something that has made it a must buy for me, Peter Davison and Colin Baker both feature on the commentary for Arc Of Infinity, so want to hear that, the fanboy that I am has little choice, but to purchase

Actually, last weekened I considered starting a general Classic Who thread instead of the two for "The Claws of Axos" and "The Curse of Fenric"/"Survival" but I decided against it - not quite sure why...

So I'll support this thread by posting in here after I've watched the McGann movie and "The Seeds of Death" that Rhian kindly loaned me...

Really? I'm going to have to buy that, too, then, regardless of whether I have the money or not. Both actors are funny on their commentaries usually, so should be great together.

The commentaries are for me one of the best selling points of the Classic releases, I'm only buying Timelash because Paul Darow and Colin Baker are doing the commentary, got to be worth a listen.

Yeah, we are getting quite a lot of weak releases this year (not that it would ever stop me from buying them) and there are rumours that The Time Meddler will be out on DVD some time soon. I have a feeling though that this is delibrate and they've been saving some of the classics for next year, the shows 45th Anniversary. A special edition release of The Five Doctors with lots of extra features would be nice.

I read about the Davison/Baker commentary yesterday and I can't wait to hear it.

I note the provisional extras for Arc of Infinity include CGI replacement effects - one can only hope that this includes the Ergon.

DVD update at:

They'd better not remove the bird that flys past Concorde when it takes off from "prehistoric earth" in Time Flight - that's my favourite bit

Mary Tamm has posted on her website that she has participated in a featurette based around Series Sixteen, though as with the commentaries this is no gurantee of release it does suggest that a Region2 Key to Time release is on the cards in the near future.

I wonder, if it does come out on R2, that the commentaries will be redone or left alone. I liked the commentaries on the R1 set.

I think it's a good idea that commentaries etc are done when an actor is available and not necessarily because a release is on the cards. IIRC Katy Manning did one for Terror of the Autons about 3 years ago but there's no sign at all of it even being on the cards for release in the near future.
