There's the beautiful young Shinto priestess whose parents died in a fire and who posted hundreds of 'please help me' letters to her absent childhood sweetheart into a disused postbox; said childhood sweetheart who never takes off his wristwatch and freaks out whenever he sees knives or blood; the twin brother and sister with a horrible oppressive dad who swear they'll always be together (just possibly that sort of together); the home alone ten-year-old who sets her cap at a boy six years her senior with the cheerful encouragement of all his friends; the sweet old lady in the nursing home who sacrifices animals because she wants a cherry tree to grant her wish and bring her dead granddaughter back to life.... All that and the mindwarp of hearing Tomoko Kaneda (voice of adorable child prodigy Chiyo-chan from Azumanga Daioh) as a big-breasted airhead. Maybe this should have gone in the 'Embarrassing Anime' thread.

 There's no 'maybe' about it, chum.

Just finished El Cazador de la Bruja last night. A bit 'so-so' on all counts, but pretty good fun for something I initially checked out only because it was from the same people behind Noir.

Am watching Ghost Hound, which seems to be very interesting, with an atmosphere reminiscent of Lain and, vaguely, Paranoia Agent.

Started on Shion no Ou from the same reviewer watching Ghost Hound, and found myself strangely intrigued by a series revolving around a board game.... :?

Recently, though, I've yet to find something that really 'grabs' me. Might splash out on a boxset of something I know I like after Christmas.

Seto no Hanayome [The Inland Sea Bride] - a boy on holiday by the sea is saved from drowning by a mermaid and has to become engaged to her to escape the rule that any mermaid who reveals her people's existence to humans will be put to death. She moves into his house, there's a rivalry with his childhood friend, comedy hijinks ensue - completely conventional 'miracle girlfriend' anime, the twist being that the mer-people are Yakuza-style mobsters and the girl's father keeps trying to have his prospective son-in-law killed. It's funny as hell, particularly the running gag with the boy thinking of the hairy, macho gangster who resuscitated him after drowning as 'the one who stole my first kiss' and coming over like a girly shojo lead. It's also one of the only anime shows I've ever seen that comes with an 'All organizations portrayed in this show are fictional [subtext: please don't kill us]' disclaimer after the credits.

This sounds like comedy genius. I'll have to pick it up :)

My Azumanga Daioh box set FINALLY came in the mail on tuesday, so I'm gonna be nailing that over the festive period no doubt... Although my new year's resolution should really be to stop buying stuff until I've watched/read all the stuff I have now...
