I've been watching Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro. It's got an interesting premise and it's really funny in places. The artwork though... ooh. I believe an ironic use of the word QUALITY is in order.

Are you saying Neuro's facial expressions are ridiculous? That's half the reason for watching the show! Let's break this down:

50% comedy facial expressions
25% horribly abusive relationship between demon overlord detective and food-obsessed schoolgirl
10% clueless policemen
8% angry gangster sidekick
6% undead girl bricked up in the wall who communicates using her braid and a computer keyboard
1% plot

Good ratio.

Did I ever say I found it objectionable? :P

As a matter of fact, if I find myself really lacking something to do this weekend I may go through the episodes I have and screencap every instance of QUALITY I see. Just because.

My favourite show of the moment is Dennou Coil, a brilliant, understated series about a class of kids growing up amidst a ubiquitous virtual reality system, designed as a plaything but with more sinister, almost supernatural elements creeping in at the edges. It's a wonderfully evoked portrayal of childhood and has a very strong sense of the magical element that all children's imaginary worlds contain, and which seems to be especially powerful in Japan with its spiritual tradition of Shinto animism. It's beautifully designed and acted, often gutbustingly funny, genuinely scary and heartbreakingly moving and sad. I'm about halfway through the run and the plot, which is quite slow-moving and subtle for the first portion of the series, is starting to grip me like nothing else this year. I recommend it highly.

I've never watched a dubbed episode of Naruto in my life and hopefully never will , believe it. I'm one of those peole who prefers subtitles most of the time (I sometimes wath the subtitled version of studio Ghibli collections). At the mo I'm watching Death note, but finding it hard to get through as the subtitles are small, faint white, and partially covered up by a logo, hmmm maybe I do need to watch more subs.

I'm also on Naruto at the moment, and have decided it's best to watch only one episode at a time so that the repetition doesn't get to me.

"He's that guy. The one that did *insert five minute flashback to two episodes previous*."

Grr.

Other than that, it's fun. Not outstanding, but certainly fun.

sadly i had to watch the first season of naruto when i had broken my glasses so it was dubbing all the way, the last dics was pure subs and all the better for it, speaking of which i've just watched the highlader anime which was pure dub and no subs. i was heartbroken. but right now after my sisiter has finsihed watching high school musical 2 and subsequently killing my braincells in the process i shall be watching the first 4 episodes of bleach

I am a bad person; I know this because I'm enjoying the hell out of Myself; Yourself. Yes, I thought I was in for an undemanding high school anime with picnics, bikinis and easily resolved misunderstandings - instead it's more like early '90's Brookside. There's the beautiful young Shinto priestess whose parents died in a fire and who posted hundreds of 'please help me' letters to her absent childhood sweetheart into a disused postbox; said childhood sweetheart who never takes off his wristwatch and freaks out whenever he sees knives or blood; the twin brother and sister with a horrible oppressive dad who swear they'll always be together (just possibly that sort of together); the home alone ten-year-old who sets her cap at a boy six years her senior with the cheerful encouragement of all his friends; the sweet old lady in the nursing home who sacrifices animals because she wants a cherry tree to grant her wish and bring her dead granddaughter back to life.... All that and the mindwarp of hearing Tomoko Kaneda (voice of adorable child prodigy Chiyo-chan from Azumanga Daioh) as a big-breasted airhead. Maybe this should have gone in the 'Embarrassing Anime' thread.
