I've just watched all of Paranoia Agent.
Wow. Really. Wow.

I really liked this, and no doubt I'll watch it again, but Dear God I'm so confused!!

And also, I am offically off mascots. FOR LIFE!

So, I've only just discovered Anime Network (I know) so after years of just picking the odd thing up and reading about Anime titles in SFX I'm actually going to properly watching some stuff! Woot!

Okay, so starting with the thirteenth episodes of Evangelion, Guyver and Elfen Lied probably was a bit of a random start, but at least it is a start.

Evangelion seemed really old fashioned - almost like an episode of Battle of the Planets or the Thunderbirds remake. Considering not a hell of a lot actually happens they manage to make it quite tense.

Guyver just seemed adorable. I kept wanting to pat him on the head.

Elfen Lied was terribly confusing, being the last episode (it as only when I looked it up afterwards that I realized Lucy and, er, the really whiny one where actually the same person) but very, very good. The stand out of the night.

hit the halfway point on Angelic Layer, and I must say I'm really enjoying it. The fights are pretty good, and the characters a lot of fun. (my fave, Kaede, strikes me as being very Fuu Hououji like, both in her looks, and her gentle, supportive (but not wishy-washy) personality).

And they manage to keep 'the obnoxious shouty friend' type character from being a pain in the a***.

I watched the Ghibli movie Princess Monoke yesterday - It really drew me in, but it was odd in that it seemed to try really hard to draw all the human characters we met as basically good if flawed - even the selfish monk!

Therein lies the beauty of these films. You very rarely, if ever, have a one-dimensional cypher. Mononoke is a perfect example, as every character has their own agenda and reasons for their actions, rather than merely existing to further the plot. If you liked Mononoke, you should also check out Nausicaa - thematically it's very similar.

Got my hands on G.I.T.S 2nd Gig boxset, so I'm starting to work my way through that (just finished the first disc - Cash Eye was a fun episode).

Squee! I remember that too, and used to love it so much! I had it taped on VHS from sci-fi channel (albeit slightly edited for nudity). And I didn't realise until I saw it again last year that it was David "Snake" Hayter playing Hiroshi - what a legend! Wish wish wish someone would pick this up for a region 2 release (you can still get it on Region 1 though)

About 7 episodes into With Hunter Robin so far. It's ok... nothing special but not bad so I'm hoping it'll get better. After that I think I might give... hmmm Angelic Layer... yeah might start that.

Elfen Lied. Tamed down a bit during the second half not as much blood.
