Interesting - never heard of it and it doesn't seem to be listed on ANN. What's it about?

even though the I've had the VOl 1 DVD of Paranoia Agent in my hands for about 3 months, I've only just started watching it tonight.

V good but why do I get the feeling answers arent going to be forthcoming.

Next I may try Full Metal Alchemist and Elfin Lied. ONe question though why the hell is Anime so expensive in the UK.

If fans can do subs for nothing for the *coughs* internet versions then what on earth warrants such a high price. £20 for 4 episodes of FMA on Amazon.

It's because anime is expensive to release in the UK, and the market is tiny compared to the US. Part of the reason we don't get many very long series released on DVD here (Manga are releasing Naruto Uncut from August, which I honestly never thought I'd see) is because as well as licensing costs, UK distributors have to pay for the material to be approved and assigned a certificate by the BBFC, who charge by the length of film they are presented with. This all adds up.

Distributors need to at least break even in order to continue releasing anime here, and because there's such a small market that means slapping a high price tag on the releases. If the market were to increase in size we might see a drop in the average price, but the first thing that needs to happen is for existing anime fans to support the industry instead of just downloading fansubs of licensed releases.

Look on the positive side, too: at least in the UK you're guaranteed 3-5 episodes of a TV series per DVD. A few volumes of Gantz were released in the US with only two episodes on them both (no change to the cost of the DVD), and I understand only a few episodes of Panda Z were released per DVD in the US - when you consider that Panda Z episodes are about five minutes long each, that's even worse (and the UK release is going to be much better value for money).

Plus, last time I was in HMV I saw something else on DVD that consisted of four episodes for £20 - its name was Doctor Who.

And wasn't the whole series something like £70 (RRP, mind) for a shelf-space-hogging box set of 13 episodes? That on top of the TV licence fee...

Yes but I wouldnt pay £20 for that. I'd wait for the boxset and get it for £39.99 from Play. Which is what I would do. And what I would happily do for a season of Naruto or FMA(are there seasons?)

Still the fact that Anime is actually getting a UK release is a good thing. Dont get me wrong, its just the fact I'm not wealthy enough to buy the complete series at the moment that irks me :(

I buy the vanilla Doctor Who DVD's from Asda. Only £11.97 each.

As far as buying Anime goes, I tend to buy the Japanese boxsets from ebay, unless I come across a good deal, such as Amazon knocking out Ghost in the Shell SAC: 1st GIG for only £29.99.

I recently picked up the complete series of Blue Gender for £20, and the full series of FMA for £25. They are proper official sets too, no bootlegs here.
