Yeah, Gurren Lagann is great, isn't it? I just love the way the scale keeps getting bigger and bigger, and more and more ridiculously OTT. :D

exactly, reading my earlier posts i thought it would be run of the mill with bonkers animation...well the animation is still bonkers but there is a pretty solid storyline amid the madness

finally after being in my lovefilm rental since June i finally got Claymore, quite enjoyable

just sat through chenbara beauty, based on a game i never played. literally bloody enjoyable bit on live action anime

FREEFALL 08-11-2009 09:42 AM

just started the second/revampled/relaunched. same characters kinda thing that is Negima, so far not bad!

FREEFALL 14-11-2009 02:32 PM

ok halfway through negima season 2, not bad at all

solty rai disc 5, and now the plot is kicking it. but some surprises

code geass, now this one is a surprise. unlike a lot of animes that have the hero trying to escape his destiny this one has a lead who is already a bit of a bastard but within reason, now being the tools to omplete his goal!

Axis Powers Hetalia - I loves it.

Code Geass VOL 2, and what a cliff hanger. sadly no news on vol 3.

Devil May Cry - Disc 1, though based on a game i've never played i kinda like this anime. it's like a demon hunter vash the stampede!

Shigurui - Death Frenzy - The Complete Series - Disc 1, ok i know this may be gory, surrealist and different from what's out there at the minute but it's so confusing that i kinda think it's a bit ****

Gurren Lagann - Vol.3 - Disc 1, ohh now this is getting intresting

I'm watching Azumanga Daioh again and I just noticed something in the English dub and wondered if it's the same in Japanese. Why does Chiyo refer to Sakaki as Ms. Sakaki but not Tomo, Yomi etc. Is there something I'm missing?

windknight 27-11-2009 10:27 AM

With all the others she's using affected or nick-names. Given Sakaki's quiet nature and large stature, she never really gets given a 'cute' name, which is something Sakaki would probably lament if she noticed.

The closest equivalent of "Sakaki-san" in English is "Miss Sakaki", and in Japan they use the "san" suffix as more a mark of respect than anything else. So while it might sound a bit odd for them to keep saying "Miss Sakaki" it in English, it's at least a faithful representation of the Japanese semantics. And I really should watch Azumanga Daioh again (I've been through it twice, one in each language), and I find both versions endlessly watchable, even though it's one of the most sedate, harmless anime shows ever, without being twee or cheesy.

EDIT: ^ and what Windblade said :P
