What are you currently watching?
I'm following quite a few things at the moment. I'm eagerly awaiting the next volumes of Paranoia Agent and Full Metal Alchemist, as well as following Bleach, One Piece (the Japanese version, not the infamous US one!) and Monster (yeah, I know it isn't SF but it's too good not to mention!). I've also just started watching two new series: Black Cat and Mushishi. And ADV are releasing Elfen Lied in the new year, which I've seen bits of and am looking forward to watching properly!
How about everyone else? Anyone following any particular series, or recently seen a film they loved? |
I'm in the middle of watching Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and I must say I'm very impressed. It's really cool. My only problem is, so far, there has hardly been any character development as such. It's basically been mission after mission stories but as I said I'm only on episode 8 so it could change. I won't be able to buy the next volume for a bit because it's like 30 Euro which is ridiculous. I got first the two for 7.99 each as they were on sale. I'm also watching R.O.D. It's okay, looks pretty but the main character, Agent Paper, is really annoying.
I still cannot believe that I'm actually talking or posting to THE Leah Holmes! It's so cool, and just shows how grateful you guys must be to your fans. Thanks :D |
Awww, I'm flattered!

Azumanga Daioh! Just discovered it, along with a whole world of anime and manga, which I'm lapping up at high speed. Alongside the incredibly cute and real school world there's a surreal internal world, and a sequence of dream episodes that are so powerful that they surely qualify this as telefantasy.

Azumanga Daioh is noteworthy as being an anime I praised in my dissertation for its representation of women ;)
I love Azumanga to bits (although I'm not too sure about the English dub). Parts of it have made me cry my eyes out, although anything with a cat-quotient that high is always likely to do that! |
I've gotten halfway through Castle of Cagliostro. The only problem is the subtitles don't match (English spoken, Dutch subs). Maybe I should just watch it without subs. Then I can understand what everyone is saying.

Wow. Ok. Azumanga Daioh, for obvious reasons. Got the second DVD through the post this morning, and have been having a great time watching the episodes. We'd got all the manga before getting our hands on any of the DVDs, and I can't wait to get the rest of them through. I very much appreciate the way the girls are represented, all the more noteworthy because the writer is a bloke. I have to say, I do prefer the sub to the dub, if only because Sakaki, Chiyo-chan and Nyamo sound more as I imagined them. The ADV dub isn't too bad, and is often funnier than the sub, but dubbed Chiyo is beginning to grate just a bit...
What else? Recently finished Evangelion and Rurouni Kenshin, am in love with everything Miyazaki's ever done, am mid-way through Escaflowne and trying to watch One Piece every so often. Unfortunately, since the only One Piece I have access to is on Toonami and is that dreadful 4Kids dub, I'm not having much luck sticking with it. I've got a ton of stuff on my must watch list though. Depends what I can talk Paul into watching with me. *g* Oh, and has anyone watched "Voices of a Distant Star" or "The Place Promised in Our Early Days" (Kumo no mukou, yakusoku no basho - my translation might be off)? I've heard a lot about both of them, and the trailers from the latter look stunning, but I'd love to hear from someone who's actually seen them. Worth a look? |

Great film as well. I really want to see One Piece uncut now thanks to Leah's piece in the last SFX. But GITS:SAC I really want to see as well. Shame I'm brassic what with Xmas and all that. |
I'm incredibly mainstream when it comes to all this Animee stuff - mostly Miyazaki. Finally caught Kiki's Delivery Service on DVD (special offer at HMV) and wondered why I'd never picked it up before. Loved it.
Haven't had time for much of the other stuff. Looks great, but a lot of the endings plain confound me - and there are far too many tentacles. However, I did catch the first two discs of GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka at the Bristol Comic Con earlier in the year and thought it was hilarious. Also caught a couple of dics of Madlax. Very interesting difference between the English dub and the Japanese track with subtitles - completely changes the main character's personality. |
Recently saw GITS:Innocence.
A tad pretentious. But Fun scence. Music hit all the right spots again. Also Watching Cowboy Beebop. The Transexual episodes are a tad odd. Loved the Alien piss-take. |
