Will Smith and Francis Lawrence – the star and director of I Am Legend – are reteaming for a fantasy drama scripted by Andrew (The Truman Show/Gattaca/Lord Of War) Niccol. The film, The Island That Sailed, is about a New York street magician whose daughter lives in England. When the girl discovers a room a room in a lighthouse with magic candles, she wishes to be reunited with her father, causing the island of Manhattan to break away and drift across the Pond. It may sound whimsical, but you can bet that with Niccol penning the thing, things might be a little deeper and metaphorical. |
I'm also quite interested in the teaming of Smith and Spielberg for an Oldboy remake.. However, the original is such a good film and with its dark themes I am having a little bit of a hard time seeing Smith in that role and Steven behind the chair..
