Wednesday Link-a-Mania

Nanny State
Joining the list of sequels we could live without is Nanny McPhee And The Big Bang, especially if the title is giving you the same image it's giving us. According to Variety Emma Thompson is back on board to once again star as the creepier Mary Poppins, with Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rhys Ifans, Maggie Smith and Asa Butterfield also in the cast. The sequel tells the story a group of kids who are evacuated from the city to a farm during wartime. Brit helmer Susanna White will make her feature film debut as director.

Piranha 3D
And if Hollywood isn’t sequelling, it’s remaking. Variety reports that Elizabeth (Hollow Man) Shue is set to avoid becoming fish food in director Alexandre Aja long-gestating 3D overhaul of the Joe Dante-directed 1978 horror movie Piranha. But why not remake the James Cameron-directed Piranha 2 instead? That had flying piranha – surely a much better bet for 3D?

Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Crave Online has some on-set pics of the filming of the modern update of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice in Manhattan’s Chinatown. Seems that Nic Cage is determined to find the role that requires him to wear the dodgiest wig – this one beats his Ghost Rider syrup hands down. Meanwhile, Jay Baruchel (the apprentice) just looks a bit bewildered by the whole affair. Actually, it looks rather intriguing – will the film have a bit of a Neal Gaiman vibe? Or is that just wishful thinking?

Whedon Pessimistic About Dollhouse’s Future
Joss Whedon is not hopeful about a second season for Dollhouse, reports Sci Fi Wire. "The chances are not very good but in limbo. Obviously our numbers are pretty soft, and there it is, but we live in hope. I'm really proud of the episodes that are coming out. More than that, I can't really ask."

Is That It For The Sarah Connor Chronicles?
The finalé episode of the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ second season aired last Friday in the States, and according to Entertainment Weekly blogger Mike Ausiello, it was also almost certainly the last episode ever: "'It's done,' maintains a source close to the show. 'Everyone has pretty much known for a couple of weeks.' Adds a network insider: 'Consider it cancelled.'"

Haven't we already had one re-make of Piranha? That just seems very unneeded.

terminator shoed such promise, but then it just went mental towards the end and even i stopped watching it. Dollshouse was doomed from the start, which is a shame as it showed some real interesting ideas as time the show continued. Ah well. Hopefully, JOss will take the hint and go to HBO for his next show.

Sarah Connor cancelled? Right, that's it, I'm handing in my SF fanboy badge and going over to light entertainment. I'm tired of getting into SF shows only to have the rug pulled from under them by lilly-livered execs in air-conditioned offices who know nothing - NOTHING - about commitment and loyalty to their audience. Screw them all. At least Last of the Summer Wine will never be cancelled...
AARRGH!

It's seems rather shortsighted to cancel Sarah Connoe BEFORE the latest Terminator sequel premieres. You'd think there'd be a whole new audience for the show when the Christian Bale movie premieres.
