Weaving Returns To Middle-earth For The Hobbit
|
The first of the two Hobbit films is scheduled to be released in December of 2011 followed by the second in December of 2012. |

The Hobbit director Guillermo del Toro has revealed that Hugo Weaving, who played Elrond in Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings trilogy, has been cast in the proquel movie. Speaking on Radio 5 to Simon Mayo he said that Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen and Weaving would be returning “…as the roles they originated in the trilogy.” Sirkis and McKellen had already been confirmed, but this is the first definite mention of Waeving’s involvement.

Keeps the continuity.
As Elrond's is a slightly lighter role in The Hobbit then hopefully we'll see a little bit of the amusement he showed towards the hobbits at the end of the council.
That is until he kicks almighty arse in the (hopefully) battle of Dol Guldur.

More disappointing were Christopher Lee's comments that he's not sure if he's up to travelling to New Zealand at his age. In that case, I'm hoping they drop the Saruman storyline (despite the inevitability of Saruman being involved in the White Council stuff) rather than recast. Unless they're going to film all the White Council studio stuff in London, which could also be doable.
