Once More With Fillion
Joss Whedon has announced on Whedoneque that he’s written a three-episode musical destined for the internet. Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog will star Nathan Fillion, Neil Patrick Harris and Felicia Day. Says Whedon on the site: "It's the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he's too shy to talk to. And I'm having the time of my life." Whedon started writing the project during the writers’ strike along with his brother Jed, Jed’s fiance Maurissa, and his other brother Zack. Each episode will be 10 minutes and filming has just commenced. And boy, what a gift this story was for a puntastic headline.

Wachowskis Go Ninja
The Wachowski Brothers’ next producing effort will be a fantasy Ninja film, tentatively titled Ninja Assassin, according to Sci Fi Wire. One of the film’s stars, Kroean pop idol-turned-actor Collin Chou (who appeared in the Wachowskis’ The Matrix and Speed Racer), tells the site that filming will begin in Berlin in late April or early May. “They have wanted to have me in a larger part, and I was waiting and waiting for a long time for it to happen,” says Chou. “I am one of four of the main characters in this movie. It is a great honour to be on board."

Dune Remake
Looks like there’s a new Dune movie on the way, according to Variety. Actor-turned-director Peter Berg is the man who’s going to try to bring Frank Herbert‘s sprawling space opera to the big screen for a second time, after David Lynch’s 1984 brave, beautiful but deeply flawed attempt. Apparently the producers see the book’s ecological themes as very pertinent in today‘s, um, climate.

Pixar Goes Live
Jim Hill Media (a site with a name that would have any child of the ’80s rubbing their chin and getting their pinch of salt ready) puts forward a very strong argument based on circumstantial evidence and “insider” reports that CG animation studio Pixar is ready to make its move into live action with a trilogy of John Carter of Mars flicks. Just in case you don’t know the John Carter books were a series of pulpy space opera stories (in fact, they may have invented the genre) written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, of Tarzan fame.

Sister Act
Medium is becoming ever more a family affair. Star Patricia Arquette’s brother David has already directed a couple of episodes, and now her sister, Rosanna (the one who appeared in Desperately Seeking Susan with Madonna) is scheduled to turn up as a guest star, reports Sci Fi Wire.

A remake of Dune, hmmm. I loved the books and the Lynch film was very good. The later mini series of Dune and Children of Dune were disapointing and slightly dull. I hope they can keep some of the menace portrayed in the 1984 film.

Just in case you don't know?!

You'll be telling the kids who Luke Skywalker is next!

Everyone in the John Carter books runs around stark naked. Can't see that making it into the films (with the possible exception of the Green Martians who will be CGI anyway).

I only knew who John Carter was because of my mildly obsessive friend... And the article that was done for the SFX book club a few months ago. So actually, yeah, most readers probably do know who he is. I'll shut up now.

To be honest, I thought the "Dune" and
"Children of Dune" Mini-series were superb,
-well-acted,shot and written,
and probably the best adaptions of Frank
Herbert's work. As the interesting but
ultimately flawed Lynch film showed, the
story could only be adapted through a
tv-miniseries.

How about adaptions of "The Green Brain"
or "The Dosadi Experiment"?
