Voyage of the Dawn Treader Will Go Ahead
20th Century Fox has stepped in to save the third Narnia film after Disney declined to continue co-financing the franchise with Walden Media following the first two films, reports Variety. Disney partnered with Walden Media on The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian but got cold feet over The Voyage of the Dawn Treader after Caspian did middling business (well, to be fair it decent box office worldwide but not spectacularly compared with its budget). The two sides are still negotiating over the budget, but it is expected to be considerably less than Caspian’s $215 million. Fox is also keen to return to the more magical tone of the first Narnia film rather than the comparatively grim tone of Caspian.

Neil Jordan to Direct Gaiman Adaptation
Company of Wolves and Crying Game director Neil Jordan is to directed a film version of Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book, reports Variety. The film, about an orphan raised by ghosts in a graveyard, will be live action, with Gaiman producing.

Afterburn
Red 5 Comic’s Afterburn is heading for the big screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth in which a group of treasure hunters go up against rival hunters, mutants and pirates in search of such bounty as the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone and the Crown Jewels. Matt (Torque) Johnson is on board as scriptwriter. The film is being produced by Neal Moritz's Original Films and Toby Maguire's Maguire Entertainment banner.

Whedon on the Dollhouse Slot
In an interview with The Daily Beast Joss Whedon is pragmatic (or maybe politic) about where Fox has decided to place Dollhouse in the TV schedule (ie, in the Friday night graveyard slot): “What Fox got was a show that’s not simple, kind of cerebral; it was a sexy sell, but a complicated premise. But not complicated in the sense it’s hard to follow. Complicated in the sense it’s hard to do every week and involve the audience every week. And so what they assumed was going to be like whiz-bang-fireworks was a lot more subtle than that. And so I think they made the very wise choice. If I was in their shoes, I would’ve done the same thing.”
