Batman number one? Who made this poll, idiots? Everyone with half a brain knows that Batman is not a Superhero. He has NO 'super powers', ergo he is not a SUPERhero. Just a Hero.
Duh.
Sorry, but it's TRUE. Deal with it.

Captain Britain made 7th!!! Pleased that he was even in the running!!! But miffed that he was cancelled in May!!! Let's hope he's picked up later in the year!!

Does the term not refer to the genre of publication?

I know this "is he a super hero or not" debate will go on forever... but for the sake of celebrating this collection of info and the effort many readers made to make this poll exist, perhaps we could just say, perhaps it could be amended to be Super-Hero, because in my eyes, Batman is indeed a hero and he is super at what he does.

..however, I personally prefer this; Batmans power is his Will, Motivation and Commitment to what he does. Perhaps it is beyond the levels of a normal human, but as it not obviously physically manifested (ie, like super strength) we can neither measure or acknowledge it.

So for me, he is indeed a superhero. Its not a fact, just an opinion and i hope people agree.

cheers.

I'm noticing a distinct lack of Booster Gold in this top ten. And that's terrible.

if we say that Batman has no Superpowers then we need to include Iron Man in that he also has no Superpowers just gadgets Batman and Iron man are essentially the same

I think you should just take it in the spirit the poll was intended Tommy to most Batman is classed as a costumed Superhero

Batman. Not a SUPERhero? Piffle!

Glad to see Captain Britain getting some long overdue acknowledgement. We need him back on an ongoing comic again. I don't care if it's only been a couple of months since he last WAS, that's still too long! ;D

Not really any surprises there, except perhaps for Cap'n Blighty and Deadpool. Top 3 wrong, though - the Man of Steel should have been #1!

Just disappointed not to see a single female superhero in the top 10...

Posted by Liz (127.0.0.1) on September 03, 2009 at 02:25 PM BST #

are you guys kidding? Superman's low point was the Superman Blue/Superman red thing in the 1990's. Superman hasn't been the last of his kind for most of his publication history. Losing Kara Zor-El was one of DC's biggest mistakes.

so did anyone guess the top 10?

Posted by Matthew Christian (127.0.0.1) on September 03, 2009 at 03:29 PM BST #

No, but I've chosen a winner, announced on the other thread

Posted by 127.0.0.1 on September 03, 2009 at 03:58 PM BST #

Yes! Batman is "The man". This is the dude who always has a plan! Shazam!

Obviously, this is a British poll. Cause Captain Britain might not even make the list in America. And I like Captain Britain. In fact, over here, switch him with Captain America, and it doesn't look like complete nonsense. :)

Not a bad top 50, some questionable, some a bit high or low, but overall not bad. I will agree with Liz though, lack of female representation in the top ten is an oversight, even more with Captain Britain there. Yes comic world is loaded with way too many men, but there are women sitting there.

Not really surprised by that list, but its a shame Hellboy failed to make the top ten, he is just a wonderful creation, and probably has more personality, charm and cool than most of that top ten

Not a single woman in the top 10.

For shame!

And no Psylocke in the whole poll???
No Ms Marvel?!
No Huntress [Hey - if you can have Batman...]

Load of old bollox

Posted by CHRISTIAN HILDITCH (127.0.0.1) on September 04, 2009 at 12:21 AM BST #

Figured it would be Spidey or Bats in first place. Either would have been cool. :-)

Batman number 1? Groan. How predictable.

Oh and I have to agree with Tommy the cat, Batman is not a superhero.

Posted by Pete (127.0.0.1) on September 04, 2009 at 02:34 PM BST #

but where is chuck norris?

Of course it's a British poll, you pillock, it's a British magazine!

Posted by Brian Braddock (127.0.0.1) on September 04, 2009 at 03:42 PM BST #

Note quite a British Poll but a poll held in Britain... I make the distinction coz in my mind a British poll would not to include any American publications... So i wonder what the poll would yield if it were to only include fleetway publications, such as Eagle, Tiger 2000AD.. and any other British only comics.

Would love to see where Dan Dare, or Doomlord(my personal fav) or Dredd himself would come in an "all british poll"

..anyway, for now, still pleased that Bats is no. 1 :-)

cheers,
