The Hogfather Q&A
Now that Hogfather is almost finished, what are your thoughts on the production (beyond, presumably, exhaustion with it)? “Above all I think I may have captured the balance of wit, satire, drama and maybe even some magic that is the reason I love Terry’s work so much.” Have you a favourite anecdote from the production? “In the end we injection moulded a million, in Essex.” How has it been dealing with Discworld fans? (Fans can be a hyper-critical lot...) “A short trailer we made for the Discworld convention got only the second-ever standing ovation (TP’s first appearance was obviously the first) so I think we’re heading in the right direction from the fan’s point of view. “Above all I want the films to be faithful to the book and to Discworld. I’m immensely proud of an email from Stephen Briggs (author of the Discworld Companion) congratulating us on being the people who finally got it right. “There are some mistakes (I’m still kicking myself about the Dean’s jacket) but in the end I hope the fans know that I love the books and want them to enjoy the films in spite of anything I’ve got wrong – and that I think Harry Potter is just a series of hackneyed, middle class, public school stories with a load of unimaginative, derivative magical stuff bolted on/borrowed from other sources... which definitely counts me as a Pratchett fan. “All I’m saying is, is Hogwarts a typo? “But it was very nice of the Potter film people to fly a special helicopter camera mount to Scotland and unfortunately not be able to use it (so we could!).” What do you want for Hogswatch? “2. All my heads of dept (Gavin Finney, DOP; Ricky Eyres, designer; Jane Spicer, costume; Ros Peat, make up; Joe McNally, editor; David Hughes, composer; Chris McClean, sound, MPC, VFX) to get BAFTA nominations and ideally to win. The quality of their work on Hogfather is absolutely astounding and exceptional. “3. A pair of trousers I don’t have to share, a meat pie, a puppy called Scruff and failing that... a little wooden toy and an apple. (You’ll have to watch the film for this one.)” Writer: Jonathan Wright |

Been in contact with Vadim myself on the IMDB boards, he's been very generous with his answering of questions.
Also happy and vindicated that someone else noticed Rowling also borrowed heavily from Pratchett (as well as Tolkien), I've been saying this for years.
Cannot wait for Hogfather. If I was in London I'd have done my utmost to be at that Premiere (Look forward to your review of it) but I'm in the North West so no chance.
Hogfather is not my first choice of Discworld adaptation (it's the second in Susan's series) I would have gone with Guards! Guards! but I'm just happy to see Discword on the screen at last in all it's glory.
Can't wait for the next one either.

I have been a fan since I first read the Colour Of Magic and have all the DW books except the Hero picture book (I just couldn't, sorry Terry!) and I must say. The show was magnificent, the effects fabulous and the characterisation? Wow, spot on.
See it it's brilliant. All the characters work, but my favourite? The turtle.
And Susan. And DEATH OF RATS

Watch out for the Auditers, they are mine and Ian Watts Dogs, from the Vapresto Kennel. You couldnt get a better 'Wolf'!! look-a-like, I think even Vadim would agree with me there, we converted him!!

The thing that really spoiled it for me was having Teatime with a brooklyn accent?? What on earth was that about? Not only did it sound out of place, but it actually made it quite hard to understand what he was saying half the time. Marc Warren wouldnt have been anywhere on my list for Teatime and - honestly - he shouldnt have been on anyone elses!
Oh yeah and: enough of the Rowling-bashing already. Its really weak to criticise another professionals work on the basis of any similarities (real or imagined).
Hope the next film (if there is one) is better because if i had had to pay to watch Hogfather, I would have been really cheesed off.

Yes, it does rather spoil the fun when you're expected to do your job well doesnt it?

So far my kids are pleading to see Hogfather for a third time! They are movie mad, loving it and it is their first introduction to TP too. I still can't believe you chose a Terry Pratchett book for a movie! An enormous challenge I am sure, but I have to say Vadim that this is a terrific production. I do hope TP agrees. I have seen it all three times so far and can't wait to see it again.
I can't really understand why anyone (as above) could overtly critise this production except through envy. The casting is near perfect. My kids and I are completely taken with Tea Time especially and every other character here.
If I had to change anything I would be harder editing the first hour of the movie and concentrate the ending too so as to shorten it for release here in USA in the cinemas!!!
