Sunday Link-A-Mania

Item! SCI FI Wire has some exclusive concept art from the new Stargate spin off, Stargate Universe. You can see pics of what the new space ship (at the heart of the Trek-style ongoing exploration mission) might look like. The series is due next summer.

Item! Fresh on the heels of rumours that Paterson Joseph could be the next Doctor, sci-fi blog site io9 has a piece about why Stephen Fry should instead get the role when David Tennant finally moves on. They reference this post of ours, in which Fry writes about his Doctor Who memories.

Item! Variety has posted the new trailer for the Friday the 13th remake. Now, arguably the first Jason Voorhees movie isn't SFX territory since it's in essence a teen slasher film, but we mention it today not just because Jason eventually goes on to get superhuman strength and invulnerability (before going into space and even fighting nightmare man Freddy Krueger) but also because the remake stars SFX favourites Jared Padalecki and Nana Visitor.

Item! And finally. Getting ready for Halloween? Need some sci-fi in your scary celebrations? Make Magazine shows us how to turn a pumpkin into a Cylon-themed lantern (via BoingBoing).

Stephen Fry as the next doctor.....?

i like the idea, why not have a older doctor, it would make a nice change!

An older doctor would be great but please not Stephen Fry. I'm sorry, he's a great TV presenter but he's not exactly got a good acting pedigree... I don't want to watch Dr Who on Saturday night getting flashbacks to the previous night's QI episode.

Whoever they cast next as the doctor, please let it reflect the most recent two castings. Another serious actor who can pull off the emotional breadth the role requires.

Sorry I forgot to put my name in the little yellow box. The comment immediately above is mine. I'm not one of those people who doesn't have the courage to put their name.

I like Stephen Fry myself, but haven't really been exposed to him very much over here in Australia (maybe I should rephrase?). In any event, I'd like to see Tennant replaced asap.

As for Nana Visitor... an SFX favourite? I'm surprised she's anyone's favourite. We are a forgiving bunch.

Loved the Cylon pumpkin idea. Will definitely have to look into that before Halloween.

I'm quite happy that we still have David Tennant as the doctor, While he's happy in the role i don't care about speculation about who going to be next. There isn't a week that goes by where another name in thrown into the ring with rumours they will be the next doctor. I'd like David to be around for a while yet.

But just for the record, Stephen Fry NO NO NO!!!!

Here we go again, the current production schedule for a show like Doctor Who is gruelling to say the least as well as physically demanding. So gruelling in fact, that in order to meet the 13 episode make up of each series, two episodes are filmed back to back, one of which being the Doctor-lite episode. This demanding schedule was one of the reasons why Eccleston didnt commit to a second series and one of the reasons why, for the foreseeable future, the Doctor will be a younger man. Lets face it, neither Eccleston or Tennant have done a bad job have they?

Let's have a male companion next time only or how about a female doctor?

"I'm sorry, he's a great TV presenter but he's not exactly got a good acting pedigree"

'Wilde', 'Jeeves and Wooster', 'V for Vendetta', his theatrical career - none of these good enough to count him as an actor then?

Re: this new Stargate series which i believe is about an automated Ancient starship called the Destiny in a remote corner of the universe. The characters from Earth are (initally anyway) unable to get back.

Errr isn't that Star Trek Voyager????

Once again the Stargate People show they have no original thoughts whatsoever.

Truly tiresome, did they learn nothing from Atlantis.

Wasn't Atlantis also Voyager (spliced with DS9)?
